Yeah, that’s one of my favorites. Or the douchebags who stand up and drink through the whole flight, as though they’re at a bbq in their back yard or something.
I went looking for the full videos of Dr. Dao being beaten and dragged off of that United flight in Chicago, and man has that shit been scrubbed. Couldn't find a decent copy.
This is going to be terrible for aviation safety. Airplanes is one of those places where ability ought to be of the utmost importance. Inflight fires, engine failures and gravity don’t care about diversity.
They are now claiming that all their recruits will have 'met or exceeded' their "standards", which is of course begging the question of what these standards are. Anything will pass by standards that are low enough. You can ask them to add 2+2, and if they answer five, you are free to select people on the basis of their race and gender.
The nonsense about 'qualified' candidates sidesteps the question of whether they are rejecting people who are better than who they are accepting, based on race and gender. They most certainly are not picking the most qualified people.
If these recruits were able to meet standards this whole time, it runs the question of why they didn't hire them beforehand.
Either white guys are just that much better at flying than them, they only just stopped being racist, or they did in fact lower their standards to get them over the line.
United sucks and were down with the Spirits and Frontiers on my preference list. I prefer American and they are still pretty bad. Most airlines suck really. I hated the experience before everyone was empowered to push their mask shit. I've not flown in mask world and am not sure I want to.
At the very least with Spirit they usually sell you what you pay for. There's not really that much of a gap between Spirit and American in the cheap seats. Particularly since I don't think any of them give out drinks anymore.
I flew United a few times before the pandemic. It was worse than flying EasyJet.
It’s not bad if you have status

Surely, it's not bad that flights are too cheap, and that it's not just the rootless cosmopolitan elites who can afford them?

Ugh, I guess airlines want to be the Amtrak of the sky now :\
That was part of the original intention of gutting passenger railroad, yes.
In the 60's post-war high, Americans could not envision the economic high ending.
Reminder that United breaks gutairs

How many people, even on the left, are willing to die for diversity?
A better question: how many people are the left willing to kill for diversity?
Lets be honest, the autopilot will fly just fine and I doubt there are enough emergencies as to make a difference.
Still racist of them and I hate them.
The US requires air traffic controllers to wear masks while talking to pilots, which makes them more difficult to understand.
If they don't care about that, what makes you think they'll care about maintaining standards for pilots?
I already refuse to fly United. I don't need more reasons to never use their service again.
Nothing mixes better than having your life in the hands of possible death cult members and being 30,000ft in the air.
I feel like the kind of people who apply for positions singled out by gender will have politics more toxic than Chernobyl's 4th reactor.

I think everyone knows which of the three.

Let's see if this works (odds are against me, I am a Techno-Neanderthal.)
This decision could cost lives...
Bummer. United did the unthinkable and put their money where their mouth was and gave extra seating room with smaller capacity flights.
