It used to be considered credible in the past in regard to criminals having certain facial structures and features. It was "debunked" since then though.
“Thus were explained anatomically the enormous jaws, high cheek bones” and other features “found in criminals, savages and apes,” he continued. These features corresponded, he argued, to a “love of orgies and the irresistible craving for evil for its own sake, the desire not only to extinguish life in the victim, but to mutilate the corpse, tear its flesh, and drink its blood.”
It sounds credible to me - not as a facial recognition algorithm you could use on the man on the street, but one that correlates certain styles of Facebook photo with certain political views. If a conservative is more likely to upload a photo of them doing something that directs their attention away from the camera, while a leftist is more likely to stare at the camera with their mouth open in mock surprise (the soyface expression), a facial recognition algorithm can recognise that despite it not strictly being about facial recognition.
Robot waifus would herald the end of western civilization. How long would it take for the AI (or whoever is behind the AI) to figure out that our evolutionary programming could be hijacked?
The perfect waifu/daughteru with the perfect face and perfect voice, perfect frame and hip-to-waist, down to each individual person. It would be like Screamers, but instead of a murderbot disguised as a war orphan, it would be a companion who tells you to work an extra hour and vote appropriately.
The problem with tech like this is that it will be outdated very quickly. Political opinions aren't stagnant, and what the average looking person supports today is very different from what they would've support 15 years ago, and what they will support 15 years into the future.
In other words scientists discover that physiognomy is real and figure out how to detect soyface.
Actually, yes:
Doesn't that sound like a description of soyface?
It used to be considered credible in the past in regard to criminals having certain facial structures and features. It was "debunked" since then though.
Phrenology. AFAIK on a large enough sample it works, but the correlation is so weak it's practically useless.
I keep saying it because it is true.
These days "scientists" keep working on tech that only benefits authoritarians.
What can go wrong?
I bet it's all bullshit and they're lying for grant money. Like 99% of 'scientists' today.

I guess we can also expect Tinder VR in the near future.
You mean some Hololive VR? Why have anyone on the other end, that's just extra hassle. Demolition Man.
A fellow man of culture. That would be the beta period to get information before the robot Waifus arrive

Political views are correlated with location.
Location is correlated with genetics.
Genetics is correlated with facial structure.
It does not surprise me that political views are (weakly) correlated with facial structure.
The real question is causation, not correlation. ~Everything is correlated.
The nose, specifically.

The problem with this tech is that it's bullshit
That goes without saying.
Is it smiling = more likely center to right wing?
Late to this particular party but: So can I. Everyone, whose face not in a state of perpetual horrified disbelief is a moron and votes morons.
