The Waterfox fork doesn't benefit them, does it?

Firefox is an okay browser, but every spinoff that came out of it are leagues better solely because they're not trying to actively shove wokeism down my throat.

Waterfox was bought by System1, an advertising company: https://www.waterfox.net/blog/waterfox-has-joined-system1/

I'm not saying that this is necessarily a bad thing since hopes and dreams don't pay rent and necessities, but people should be aware and make a conscious decision.

Pale Moon had a security incident where malware was injected into executables. That, also, can happen to any company but it's another sign that precaution is required for selection.

I personally use Brave as my primary browser, which has had its own controversies. Plus, it's based on Chromium.

Of course, getting off FireFox is strongly recommended regardless of choice ultimately. Their wokeness and anti-privacy measures have only accelerated over time, and will continue to do so.

Thanks, switching right now from Firefox to Brave. Why can companies not keep political opinions to themselves? Wankers, all of 'em.

People have been saying the sky is falling when Adblock Plus was bought by an ad company, or was it always made by one and they just addeed those optional unintrusive ads? Either way, I've been using it with no issues (or ads) until yesterday.

No idea about System1 but yea, doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Unfortunately, when AdBlock Plus was compromised in its business model, it did have a direct & visible effect on my browsing experience, so I had to switch.

In terms of impact, IMO it's worse than monetization of anonymized user data aggregation, which some companies use as their model. Perhaps System1 falls under this umbrella. Glad you weren't impacted either way.

uBlock Origin (all browsers) and uBlock Origin Extra (for Chromium browsers) work great in conjunction with Disable HTML5 Autoplay (Reloaded) if you ever have problems.
