I'm not saying that this is necessarily a bad thing since hopes and dreams don't pay rent and necessities, but people should be aware and make a conscious decision.
People have been saying the sky is falling when Adblock Plus was bought by an ad company, or was it always made by one and they just addeed those optional unintrusive ads? Either way, I've been using it with no issues (or ads) until yesterday.
No idea about System1 but yea, doesn't have to be a bad thing.
Unfortunately, when AdBlock Plus was compromised in its business model, it did have a direct & visible effect on my browsing experience, so I had to switch.
In terms of impact, IMO it's worse than monetization of anonymized user data aggregation, which some companies use as their model. Perhaps System1 falls under this umbrella. Glad you weren't impacted either way.
uBlock Origin (all browsers) and uBlock Origin Extra (for Chromium browsers) work great in conjunction with Disable HTML5 Autoplay (Reloaded) if you ever have problems.
