Even before feminism became a thing, they were still complaining. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/meet-pro-temperance-women-who-crusaded-against-coffee-180965039/

Not to mention that beyond a given age, your reproductive days are done for good (thank goodness for that.)

Though, tbf, I thought I read recently where particularly old sperm isn't that great an idea, either, but that would be in men over 50 or 60.

And the time limit isn't even that unique to humans, any responsible breeder knows you don't start 'em too young, and you shouldn't keep on past a certain age (even if the species doesn't enjoy menopause. I think some? cetaceans do, though.)

Part of the reason we stopped marrying off 12 year olds, is that first babies born to under-16 moms tend to die.

Bird breeders have common sense guidelines about demanding fewer clutches from aging hens. For cocks it dosen't matter as long as it's giving good chicks.

Producing eggs is physically taxing. The hen digs in her mineral reserves to form the shells. Older hens have harder time recovering and all sorts of problems can occur for the hen and chicks if you keep setting her up for several clutches per year.

Because of the Patriarchy.

Children born to older people of either gender isn't always a great idea anyway, because the parents won't be able to keep up with them at all, and possibly die before the child is able to take care of itself well enough.

60? Holy crap that really is more like a grandpa. My granddad was 64 when I was born, and he was the only male figure in my life for a big chunk of time, but yeah there's really not much you can do with a rambunctious boy at that age. You're already closing on 80 when they're a teen. So yeah it's like having a granddad, but even then they can't really impart any pearls of wisdom since by that time (if they haven't developed Alzheimer's or dementia) they can't do anything but sit on the recliner watching Dallas reruns or whatever.

Deferring childrearing to so late in adult life's really fucked with tons of kids. Hell my mom was 39 when I was born. I have a half-sister my mom had 15 years before I was born; guess which of us got the autism. There's no telling how many peope have issues that could've been lessened or avoided entirely if their parents actually had kids when we're biologically supposed to.

Genetic degeneracy in sperm is a real issue, but only after you're in your 50s+.
