Now I’m only on Book 12 but the more I read about the show the more I’m content to just finish the book series and let that be it. They are summarizing it as a book about Moraine. Now she is an important character but it’s about Rand. Also the show runner took questions and one “fan” asked about lgbt representation and he said he will make sure to have that because it’s important.
An annoyance of mine in nerd culture are people who have to see themselves represented in everything. In my opinion they aren’t real fans. A well written character can appeal to all types of people. I’m a black male and since childhood my two favorite comic book characters have been Spider-Man and Superman. I like them because they are idealistic and try to see the good in everyone which is something I strive for.
I’ll say it again people who have to be represented or see themselves in everything aren’t real fans and some people make up a small percentage of the population so it’s very unrealistic to be represented in everything.
Are there any new shows that aren't infected with SocJus? I don't even bother looking because I'm sure it's a lost cause.
Not really. The SocJus problem is deeply entrenched in the entertainment industry (why else Gamergate started?) and will need great effort to root it out.
I am content with burning it all down and starting from scratch with strict gatekeeping.
Well for the most part I just watch and read stuff from 2014 and prior but some examples of good modern shows are Yellowstone, Better Call Saul, Last Man Standing, and Blue Bloods
Yes, everything I've heard about the writing for this show is that they completely misunderstand the gender dynamic presented in Wheel of Time, and instead intend to impose their own intersectional gender dynamic. Frankly Robert Jordan's wife should be ashamed of herself for allowing this violence to be done to her late husband's work.
Second (no) time this has happened.
I'm not looking forward to the show at all. I plan to not watch it so I can keep enjoying the books. One of the worst things about the new Star Wars trilogy was that it made me no longer enjoy Star Wars content, this includes the Star Wars books. I've skipped The Witcher series for the same reason and going to skip LOTR as well.
With Star Wars I just read the old EU but I do like Mandalorian. I totally get where you are coming from. I’ve read the hobbit and I plan on reading the LOTR trilogy and simillarion soon. Also got the original Conan the Barbarian stories.
I need to get the Witcher books. I like Cavil because he respects fans but I feel season two will be female focused entirely
That's the thing, even the old EU bothers me. I used to read them but now they just remind me of what it could have been and how much Disney hates fans. I found myself to no longer be able to enjoy them. Is to much of a risk to get involved in a new series that will shit on fans. The Witcher may be good or may be crap but I simply do not want to commit and then have it blow up in my face. If you get to read the books let me know if you like them, the writing stile is very strange, reminds me a bit of Roger Zelazny.
Yeah, I can see why you don't get on with the people who declare people like me irrevocably, irredeemably racist because of my skin colour.
Yea I have this crazy notion that I should judge by character and that racism against whites is still racism.
I'm sorry, I have it on good authority that the man CNN assures me is President says that you are not in fact, black.
I'm not sure I would be able to be as demeaning to black people as the activists that push themselves forwards as advocates for black people. My morals keep kicking in.
Very true. lol. Well my DNA said I’m about 20% European. I guess I can identify with those genes.
She isn't even in half of the books!
it's a current year show, of course it's pozzed to hell and back
Only on book 12. Sort of glad I gave up reading
I made it to page 6 of book 1 and decided "Nope".
It has been ages since I read the first book but what could possibly be in the first 6 pages to make you say nope?
Wheel of Time does not begin in medias res. It begins with an exposition dump. An exposition dump that gives the impression that the author likes exposition dumping and probably will be doing a lot of that.
Ha! Yea it’s definitely a commitment
