I came across this video which explains the progressive view of internet politics from their side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P55t6eryY3g
It goes into who they view as "alt-right", what they think their opponents are saying and how they think the online world contributes to it all. Covers everything from Jordan Peterson, to Charlottesville, to nazis infiltrating gaming/anime/etc. It also has some hilarious quotes like, "There's a joke on the internet that nerds only perceive two races: white and political".
One of the central themes I got implicitly was that everything not progressive is Nazism. "Not-liberal", "alt-right", and "nazi" are used interchangeably. There's this strange argument that "Nazis are bad" is not a political statement since everyone agrees and that therefore "Nazis are good" is also not a political statement. This combined with the marketplace of ideas provides cover for Nazis to propagate their ideas.
At 18:08, he proposes an onion as a metaphor for the "alt-right". Each layer represents a red pill until a final red pill at the centre, which might be about Jews. He then says that number and order of these pills might vary. It seems like he's really trying to force the metaphor to frame anyone with non-progressive ideas as part of a heirarchy of forbidden ideas which culminates in anti-semitism.
The video lists 14 possible exits from the "cis het white male" centered world but my favorite is the last: "He may revisit an old belief system such as religion, social justice, or a really wholesome fandom (Steven Universe)".
Generally, my autoplay leads to communists like Slavoj Zizek that I just ignore, but i guess it's fun to see what the other side says too. I was frequently surprised to see how often this video validated my stereotypes of progressives. Anyways, 2/10 check it out for a laugh.
"One of the central themes I got implicitly was that everything not progressive is Nazism."
This is closer to the truth than you may realize once you actually research more about the policies they enacted.
Do you mean progressive policies or nazi policies?
Both. The more I learn about both the more they seem diametrically opposed.
Interesting, I was thinking that they'd be more similar. They both want very centralized economies and government and want to restrict thought to a narrow acceptable range.
Yeah that's what they've been painted as in education and media, but that seems to be a case of projection more than anything else to me. Their economy was centralized in some areas and more free in others. They were reducing gun control and increasing the health and safety standards. And a lot of the books that were burned were primarily what would be considered progressive or Critical Theory material now.
I still have more research to do, but when you look at direct sources rather than opinionated ones you get a very different story being told.
It's difficult to research because the victors [re]write history. And we all know who won ww2.
That may be. Admittedly I have little original source knowledge of Nazi ideology thought I am aware of some of those books they burned.
I do find it unlikely that they will be complete opposites though. There's too many dimensions to consider. Still, best of luck with your research. Perhaps you can make a blogpost or something.
Well, I can kind of imagine the sort of shit one might have seen, living rough on the streets and in the flophouses of Vienna at the turn of the last century. One sees a lot of eye-opening shit from the perspective of a rat.
It's interesting that around the 10 minute mark where he's discussing communities, you can see censorship as a form of "saving" the community. I suppose banning people and the /r/european sub was "good" because they were pointing out the worst of "helping muh rapefugees".
That said I don't get the "everyone's a NAHZI" crap he keeps labeling. There's a lot of socialist hating people out there who dislike oven dodgers.
Also 13 minutes in they talk about how the right "makes things hostile to the left" to cut off "Gabe" but so far all I've seen were leftists banning people on the right. I didn't go to voat until they banned MillionDollarExtreme and European and all the other decent subs. Can't make fricken Orc's being allowed in the Shire memes without being banned.
It seems like this leftist makes the same mistake all leftists make, he can't take responsibility for anything, and can't reflect on anything and conclude that he may have been wrong. At no point does he blame the left, or give the left any responsibility for causing any of this. Yet if I were to ask anyone anywhere, heck even here because we're all probably some variation of "Nahzeeee" at this point, how did you get here? Did the taboo right wing ideology lead you here? Was your lovely community corrupted by right wing Chad's, and you followed along? Most likely the left made you hate what you used to love, and chased you away until you found this place.
Also funny seeing him make the mistake of saying the red pill came after "get woke". It's like these kids liking x movie or y song, that was actually made by some famous person 30+ years ago.
This is me to a T. Every single online game I play these days has some form of guild or group that has to reference some kind of facet of real life. Gone are the days of "The Imperial Legion" and "Crusaders of Light," and instead I have to look at people broadcasting about their political positions, or their gender identities, or some other fucking trash I don't want to be thinking about in my fantasy or sci-fi game.
In Guild Wars 2 there's the [LGBT] group and I've blocked easily 50 people from advertising their other different guilds because they all have to add a line about how accommodating and accepting they are. There is also the guild [ACAB] which stands for "All Cats Are Bats" and totally doesn't violate their ToS, no matter how many times you try to report it.
Then there's Final Fantasy 14 where half of everyone you meet has their pronouns in their Search Info, along with some braindead bumper-sticker phrase like "Love is Love."
I'm so sick of having to see it in every store window, yard sign, and leaked internal memorandum from some giant company that has nothing to do with politics or law. I want it to go away so bad that I'm starting to really understand and sympathize with how and why violent extremism develops in response to such over-bearing messaging, and as far as I'm concerned, propaganda.
I'm in the same boat, it started with games and movies and then starting to notice how fucked up things have gotten at work. I used to be glad that they strive for diversity, I thought it meant that race or gender was not taken in to account, then I was involved in the hiring process and that fucked me up, it was so incredibly racist towards whites and men that it made me depressive and kind of lost.
Then when I was at work a new guy told me about Jordan Peterson, the guy had read his book and he got motivated to change his life around, he went from a fat lazy simp to leaving his old job for a better paying one, getting fit, got in to MMA and now he was doing great with the ladies.
I ended up watching a ton of his videos and bought his book. Next I decided to watch the other "right wing extremist" that reddit told me about so I watched Ben Shapiro, Steven Crowder, Milo etc. Here there was this Milo guy, who was rude as fuck but was of jewish descent, gay with a black boyfriend and the left was calling him a racist nazi. At that point I hated r/politics, I felt lied to, betrayed and manipulated (so about the same as dating a manipulative bitch).
So I ended up on the right, against identity politics and SJW being forced in games and movies, pro freedom of speech and I did a 180 on guns, I am now 100% for guns.
Right there with you. All this stuff is steadily building into a rage but with no productive outlets to channel it into. They've all been overtaken and now I'm just a dissident with unacceptable opinions that I have to keep to myself. I very much understand how this sort of thing could escalate.
If you can take up a creative hobby, i would do that. They've taken all my hobbies but they can't take my mind!
I miss the good old days of "Dont ask, dont tell" people used to keep that shit to themselves, now its all out of pandoras smelly box and wont go back in
It's the usual socialist - not that it's unique to socialists - thing of "If only you'd submit, you wouldn't get hurt, so, really, it's your fault that you're getting your teeth pulled, isn't it?"
What you're seeing is widespread systematic adoption of fallacies.
My personal pet peeve is the immigration "debate".
Some conservatives express a desire to reduce immigration - not eliminate it or reverse it, but simply reduce it. Other conservatives want to leave immigration largely untouched. A few RINOs even call for increased immigration.
Most democrats, by contrast, want to open the floodgates.
Now take a staunch white nationalist. He seeks a literal white ethnostate, but even the most deluded turbo racist knows that there's zero chance his worldview will triumph in a free marketplace of ideas. So what does he do? He votes for the lesser of two "evils" according to his beliefs. In this case, that happens to be the republican - even when that republican technically favors increased immigration!
So you have a bigoted white nationalist voting for increased immigration, but the democrats will still smear that republican as the "white nationalist" candidate. In this game, the only way to avoid the white nationalist smear is to support mass immigration. Think about that: you can't hold a moderate or even slightly positive view of immigration as a republican without being tarred as a white supremacist. No, you must adopt the democrat position of essentially open borders if you want to avoid the smear - and that's only regarding immigration.
Truth is democrats will use the exact same tactic to force conservatives to adopt leftist positions on every issue. This has been going on for decades now. It doesn't matter if your ideas are good or bad. All that matters is the wrong sort of people support you - even if they only see you as a bulwark against someone worse rather than a legitimate solution to their concerns.
You must have been sleeping the last few years. White ethno states will be the final solution to mass multiculturalism. The people may not be ready for it yet after years of propaganda, but It's completely inevitable. If the free market of ideas was actual free, and based on the most logical outcomes, then they would already be a thing. White societies were and will always be the safest, with the least crime, and the best functional order. Reality speaks for itself.
And there's not one thing racist about wanting to live with your own people, with shared values. It's the sanest thing in the world.
This is why Conservatism needs to be abandoned in favor of something with more teeth. The Right needs a party that's going to tell the Left to get fucked and then proceeds to undo all their evil.
The biggest 'alt-right pipeline' in existence is the left themselves. I didn't switch to voting for the right because the right changed its stances - I switched because the left cast me out and told me that I, as a straight white male, am inherently evil and that 'my people' (10% of the world's population) should not be allowed to have any space on earth that they govern themselves.
Looking at the history of other ethnic groups with no space that they govern themselves, from the ancient world through to the present day, there is absolutely no way this does not result in mass killings of whites.
The biggest 'alt-right pipeline' is the basic fucking instinct to survive.
Not an incorrect statement when it comes to describing many others who are here. Which is pretty much why I have little care on listening to people here when they spout the classic "Just want to play vidya" line.
I mean, I do, unironically, just want to play videogames.
Sounds like projection. Long march through the institutions and all that shit.
I also think they don't understand how there still can be people standing up to their insanity when they control the narrative from child-care through school through the media.
Must be a pipeline. Can't be common sense.
The video at one point says that people joining the alt right is a failure to control the narrative. Their solution to prime rejecting their totalitarian world view is of course more totalitarianism.
Notice how in just a few short years "Radicalisation" was a term used to describe religious extremists of the Islamic persuasion... and now suddenly its being attributed to watching youtubers like Stefan Molyneux, Sargon or even fucking Tim Poole hahahaha
the biggest "alt-right" pipeline.... black people behaving badly and nobody doing anything about it
It's insane how little self-awareness so many of these people possess.
At least zizek comes up with original perspectives. I watched his talk on how modernity destroys the sense of time and was somewhat impressed. Then he gets to economics and Im instantly put off.
I wish youtube would stop with him...
I was also born in the year 1988..... mother of god...
