I came across this video which explains the progressive view of internet politics from their side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P55t6eryY3g
It goes into who they view as "alt-right", what they think their opponents are saying and how they think the online world contributes to it all. Covers everything from Jordan Peterson, to Charlottesville, to nazis infiltrating gaming/anime/etc. It also has some hilarious quotes like, "There's a joke on the internet that nerds only perceive two races: white and political".
One of the central themes I got implicitly was that everything not progressive is Nazism. "Not-liberal", "alt-right", and "nazi" are used interchangeably. There's this strange argument that "Nazis are bad" is not a political statement since everyone agrees and that therefore "Nazis are good" is also not a political statement. This combined with the marketplace of ideas provides cover for Nazis to propagate their ideas.
At 18:08, he proposes an onion as a metaphor for the "alt-right". Each layer represents a red pill until a final red pill at the centre, which might be about Jews. He then says that number and order of these pills might vary. It seems like he's really trying to force the metaphor to frame anyone with non-progressive ideas as part of a heirarchy of forbidden ideas which culminates in anti-semitism.
The video lists 14 possible exits from the "cis het white male" centered world but my favorite is the last: "He may revisit an old belief system such as religion, social justice, or a really wholesome fandom (Steven Universe)".
Generally, my autoplay leads to communists like Slavoj Zizek that I just ignore, but i guess it's fun to see what the other side says too. I was frequently surprised to see how often this video validated my stereotypes of progressives. Anyways, 2/10 check it out for a laugh.
It's interesting that around the 10 minute mark where he's discussing communities, you can see censorship as a form of "saving" the community. I suppose banning people and the /r/european sub was "good" because they were pointing out the worst of "helping muh rapefugees".
That said I don't get the "everyone's a NAHZI" crap he keeps labeling. There's a lot of socialist hating people out there who dislike oven dodgers.
Also 13 minutes in they talk about how the right "makes things hostile to the left" to cut off "Gabe" but so far all I've seen were leftists banning people on the right. I didn't go to voat until they banned MillionDollarExtreme and European and all the other decent subs. Can't make fricken Orc's being allowed in the Shire memes without being banned.
It seems like this leftist makes the same mistake all leftists make, he can't take responsibility for anything, and can't reflect on anything and conclude that he may have been wrong. At no point does he blame the left, or give the left any responsibility for causing any of this. Yet if I were to ask anyone anywhere, heck even here because we're all probably some variation of "Nahzeeee" at this point, how did you get here? Did the taboo right wing ideology lead you here? Was your lovely community corrupted by right wing Chad's, and you followed along? Most likely the left made you hate what you used to love, and chased you away until you found this place.
Also funny seeing him make the mistake of saying the red pill came after "get woke". It's like these kids liking x movie or y song, that was actually made by some famous person 30+ years ago.
This is me to a T. Every single online game I play these days has some form of guild or group that has to reference some kind of facet of real life. Gone are the days of "The Imperial Legion" and "Crusaders of Light," and instead I have to look at people broadcasting about their political positions, or their gender identities, or some other fucking trash I don't want to be thinking about in my fantasy or sci-fi game.
In Guild Wars 2 there's the [LGBT] group and I've blocked easily 50 people from advertising their other different guilds because they all have to add a line about how accommodating and accepting they are. There is also the guild [ACAB] which stands for "All Cats Are Bats" and totally doesn't violate their ToS, no matter how many times you try to report it.
Then there's Final Fantasy 14 where half of everyone you meet has their pronouns in their Search Info, along with some braindead bumper-sticker phrase like "Love is Love."
I'm so sick of having to see it in every store window, yard sign, and leaked internal memorandum from some giant company that has nothing to do with politics or law. I want it to go away so bad that I'm starting to really understand and sympathize with how and why violent extremism develops in response to such over-bearing messaging, and as far as I'm concerned, propaganda.
I'm in the same boat, it started with games and movies and then starting to notice how fucked up things have gotten at work. I used to be glad that they strive for diversity, I thought it meant that race or gender was not taken in to account, then I was involved in the hiring process and that fucked me up, it was so incredibly racist towards whites and men that it made me depressive and kind of lost.
Then when I was at work a new guy told me about Jordan Peterson, the guy had read his book and he got motivated to change his life around, he went from a fat lazy simp to leaving his old job for a better paying one, getting fit, got in to MMA and now he was doing great with the ladies.
I ended up watching a ton of his videos and bought his book. Next I decided to watch the other "right wing extremist" that reddit told me about so I watched Ben Shapiro, Steven Crowder, Milo etc. Here there was this Milo guy, who was rude as fuck but was of jewish descent, gay with a black boyfriend and the left was calling him a racist nazi. At that point I hated r/politics, I felt lied to, betrayed and manipulated (so about the same as dating a manipulative bitch).
So I ended up on the right, against identity politics and SJW being forced in games and movies, pro freedom of speech and I did a 180 on guns, I am now 100% for guns.
Right there with you. All this stuff is steadily building into a rage but with no productive outlets to channel it into. They've all been overtaken and now I'm just a dissident with unacceptable opinions that I have to keep to myself. I very much understand how this sort of thing could escalate.
If you can take up a creative hobby, i would do that. They've taken all my hobbies but they can't take my mind!
I miss the good old days of "Dont ask, dont tell" people used to keep that shit to themselves, now its all out of pandoras smelly box and wont go back in
It's the usual socialist - not that it's unique to socialists - thing of "If only you'd submit, you wouldn't get hurt, so, really, it's your fault that you're getting your teeth pulled, isn't it?"
