They took all of people's money and rather than use it to upgrade the site that is barely improved from when I used it a decade ago and instead funded a complete woke mess.
That's a different but still completely woke and hard pass moment.
I wouldn't say it has barely improved, it is much worse.
That's hard to imagine, considering it was one step above malware back then. Actual virus riddled Russian sites were worth the risk some days.
I agree with you, it was shitty, but at least they left the Anime untouched.
See, I don't know Japanese. I can't be certain about what is or isn't perfectly accurate. The over obvious ones like Dragon Maid are obvious, but there are plenty of subtle things I would never guess they could pull over.
Translation and localization, sub or dub, is a field that requires a degree of trust. And CR has none of that and should be given the same disdain as if they had done that same shit because of every other obvious flaw. "Our competitor is somehow worse than us" should never be a bar we let someone over. Didn't work for EA and Activision, and won't work here.
Also, I 100% would suspect CR of pulling the same shit as Funi if they could, they just lack the same stranglehold and money to accomplish it.
They used to have it. Wtf happened?? I haven't watched anime in a long time but it's still been sad seeing how woke the Western anime watchers have gotten.
It didn't used to be that way either that's the disappointing thing.

It's not that Western Anime viewers have gone woke, it's that the SJW clique invaded the production side of things and forced the wokeness into official dubs and subs, so if you want the non-pirated versions you're stuck with their shit. The old-school weebs are still furious over Funimation and other houses' IdPol insertions changing scenes, and in some cases entire characters personalities. Unfortunately, they get dismissed as incels and other similar trash insults designed to invalidate their opinions, and the bullshit continues. Anyone who wants to get away from the Cult's garbage is basically going to be forced to bootleg the content or learn how to speak Japanese.
Crunchyroll has been waiting for someone to buy it for 5 years. Crunchyroll software have been eclipsed by pirating sites run in third world countries. Barely any improvements have been made, features have been slowly disappearing, and anything they replace with something new has been much, much worse.
Anime in the west is going to be cucked for the future (And kind of has been for years now). I'm glad I'm more of a manga guy myself, but even that doesn't seem to be safe.
For starters, there are a lot of people that take the leftist perspective on themes of some stories. Not major, but the sort of stuff that I saw was bubbling over during the early 2010s and late 2000s.
And second, while it was one controversy, people got butthurt over a character in some villainess manga who was afflicted with a curse and had dark skin. Spoilers, but I think you can see where this is going. The girl gets cured and her skins turns white and people got mad that it was whitewashing. And while you might think it was just some westerners getting mad over something. That manga actually had a revised version in Japan that kept her skin the same. So I do have my concerns that the tide is turning in Japan.
This part isn't technically piracy in and of itself, but if you don't have a Plex server setup I'd highly suggest checking that out. Mine runs off a NVidia Shield TV with an 8TB HDD attached, but there's loads of other ways. Most of what I have is legit, but if there's things I can't easily stream I've been buying and ripping Blu-Ray sets (often quite cheap to get too). Once they are ripped it's basically the same as what you'd get pirated so where you get the files is irrelevant.
Where Plex comes in is I can dump the series on my hard drive and as long as the episodes are split up and named and it will pretty much turn it into my personal streaming service. Sorts into seasons, adds artwork, lets me watch on any device, keeps up with where I left off etc. The biggest thing it did was let me dust off old Blu-Ray (and a few DVD) TV sets and actually use them again because they weren't such a pain in the ass.
I'm still really new to this whole anime thing and I've been checking out different things on Hulu so far and hadn't tried Crunchyroll. I assume they roll them up under Sony Interactive Entertainment (i.e. super-woke American Sony) and then start ruining everything?
I've been working on learning Japanese, albeit just barely started but I was going to start trying to just import some things to read anyway. If I get good enough I can just skip US market stuff entirely if they are going to ruin it. I hope it works out, I've wanted to pick up another language a while and I can fumble through bits and pieces of several languages. I'm hoping since Japanese actually has loads of media I am interested in it will be motivation. It helps that there's some more basic (i.e. kids) content that can actually be enjoyable by an adult too.
In the end I'll never end up avoiding all the woke BS, but in all honesty that's not what's run me off of a lot of entertainment. I'd more call it a side effect of the woke-ness in that I just don't like the content of a lot of Western shows/movies/games anymore. I just don't want to watch them. I also got tired of the one-hour "serious drama" format that's everything now. I had been clamoring for years for half-hour lighthearted content that still had some intelligence behind it, so I really should have tried anime years ago.
Thanks for the link! I totally agree with his Duolingo thing at the top too. I used it to learn hirogana and katakana essentially as flash cards but the rest I've gotten in to has been totally useless. I've tried and failed in even easier languages with all these miracle online learning tools. This time around I'm trying to see if I can channel how I learned to read as a kid (not that I really remember) and try to make my own way. He's got loads of links in that post of resources I've been trying to gather. We will see how it goes but I have hope right now! And free time...
Immune? Didn't CR bankroll that woke trash anime?

Sony isn't going to make them less woke either. I hope the Crunchyroll guys made bank on their way out.
Prepare for a culture shift in censorship unless western viewers start cultivating an attitude of "pirate subs, buy Japanese merch"
>implying I ever did anything else
Lol I never stopped doing that

As if I wasn't already ready for a maritime career.

Peter Pan? Please. Lazy town is far superior
I was going to be mad, but you linked the correct version.
God bless Fred Perry.
I wonder if guys still use Crunchyroll to pick up underaged weeb chicks.
I ask because that's what I did (while also underage) way back in the day, and SJW wokesters love them some pedo pots.
Oh god!
Just what the world needs, more Soyny woke anime.
god damn it. sony moving to california was the biggest mistake.
So... moneylaundering, right?

Garbage bought by garbage. No F from me.
Stop licensing anime woke companies like Soyny of California.
Give it to based companies like Play-Asia.
Which is more worth it? Crunchy roll or Funimation?
I agree.
Now I just have to find out what pirates use, because I only recently decided to abandon legit means.
