Too late. They already have a year of agitprop telling them they're the real heroes and anyone without a mask literally wants everyone around them dead at all times.
They even dress up their anxiety by blaming anyone not adhering strictly to allowing the state to end life as we know it, saying they're 'shouldering the burden' of people who don't do as they do, like they're carrying the cross up Golgotha.
Goes back to the CS Lewis quote about the tyranny of those who think they're saving you. They can excuse anything, because they're doing the 'right thing'.
