I think he's putting on a show for the centrists. He pardons her and the left responds by throwing their principles aside and Susan B. Anthony under the bus. Centrists think, "Do I really want to side with the group that will toss you aside when it's politically convenient?"

He pardons her and the left responds by throwing their principles aside and Susan B. Anthony under the bus.

"The Left has principles"

"The Left abandons their principles at the drop of a MAGA hat"

These are contradictory statements. The Left has no principles outside the acquisition of power, alone. If they had principles... they wouldn't have dropped them.

Take an Evangelical for example. An Evangelical would never drop his principle that abortion is murder just because it was convenient. Regardless of whether or not you agree with the stance, it is a principle because he doesn't drop it.

Ergo, if the left is constantly dropping principles, then those aren't principles.

So, what is the only thing they haven't ever dropped when politically convenient?

Power.

There's no such thing as a double standard. Only a single standard, and a lie about what that standard is.

It's free, it's harmless, and maybe it'll get a few women who consider themselves feminists but aren't up on woke feminism to vote for him. Probably not, but it's still free.

Plus now you get a deluge of MSM outlets reporting that Susan B. Anthony was a racist. It's laughs all around

In her time, everyone was racist. Especially by the standards of today. It's meaningless. If anything it might actually make feminists pissed at the MSM for attempting to cancel one of their folk heroes

Sure, but it triggers cognitive dissonance. If people on the verge of leaving wokeness behind see this, they can realize how wrong they are about wokeness and cancel culture. It's too complex to just cancel someone for having a different view. SJWs are taking the all-or-nothing approach.

Even feminists get a few things right now and again.

Pardons are free and the only limit is really the one SJWs are trying to impose, which is his pardons need to be lower than Democrat presidents. Barry was in the thousands and Trump is in the hundreds. He's not really wasting anything. He's also benefitting from Democrats trying to pick a side against him on an issue more complex than its face.

Fuck no on Snowden, that fucker cause a lot of intelligence damage besides the domestic stuff. Also running off to russia doesn't dissuade me from him being an actual russian agent.

I have a hard time trying to decide where I fall on the snowden thing but I think it's because I don't know enough about it. Can you expound a bit on why you think he was wrong? I am curious to know the reasoning on that side.

The NYT are already trying to cancel Susan for being a racist or something.

Amongst other things. If you read the NYT article on it they call her divisive and claim she prevented black people from being at the forefront.

Kind of virtue signally but I guess it doesn't hurt anything. Would love to see him pardon Assange though.

Assange would never happen - it would bring the "muh russians" story back into the media cycle with too much fodder. Snowden maybe, but probably not, for the same reason.

Sometimes I wonder how people as stupid as you are even able to type the address of this website.

First, the only "intelligence damage" he caused was revealing that the US was illegally, and extra-judicially, spying on its own citizens.

Second, he didn't "run off to Russia". He was travelling through Russia on a stopover on his way to Ecuador, from Hong Kong, when his passport was revoked.

I think it is less about feminists and more about the white female boomer demographic in general. My mom got excited about this and sent me an article about it, and she doesn't really consider herself a feminist. She just grew up in the era when they were taught that Susan B Anthony was an American hero for women.

Did she vote for Trump in 2016? If not is this pardon enough to change her mind?

– jubyeonin 8 points 5 years ago +8 / -0

I see it as being far more complex than that. He is choosing a historical figure (and Dems want to erase history) and essentially forcing them to pick a side against him in the frame of who Susan B Anthony was. The Dems will try to drag her name through the mud to get Trump and will essentially drag the women's rights movement with her.

It costs him nothing and will trigger the absolute hell out of the left. The point isn't to make feminists vote for him, it's to make the feminists have another shrieking fit over nothing and push a couple more fence-sitters our way.
