That's fundamentally at odds with intellectual property rights though. That's like saying stealing books isn't theft just because it can be reprinted. Digital distribution is just a more efficient method of distribution, that doesn't mean the IP holders aren't entitled to monetize it as they see fit.
Coincidentally, the tranny thing and the steam release started happening about the time that Toady One became engaged/married. Also note that Kitfox Games, the publisher for the Steam version, is a completely converged organization. It has people with the middle name "X", it has multiple Chinese employees, and they bragged to Kotaku that all of their employees had the same salary.

They programmed gay dwarves, but at a statistically appropriate representational level, and it's never even noticeable. The game is famously brutal and it deserves its reputation.
The so-called mermaid genocide fix, if I remember right, was mostly about their bones being too highly valued to even be logical. You can mass murder anything and make an entire fortress out of bones. They didn't stop that. You can mass murder your own fucking children if you want and make statues out of them, and craft coats out of their skin. They don't care.
The trans thing I didn't know about. Whatever. Dwarven psychology is pretty deep and about as fucked up as human psychology. If it makes you feel better, build a prison for all one of your tranny dwarves or exile them into the caves and make them fight for their survival. It literally doesn't matter.
Dwarf Fortress has always been somewhat of a life sim of dwarves, in addition to colony management, base building, etc.
They've got other mental disorders that can affect your dwarves, I don't see why having tranny dwarves are any different. It is a mental illness after all

Incorrect. If I steal a book, you no longer have it, and it costs you resources to replace it.
Physical objects have a cost of labor, construction, and shipping attached that digital does not.
Stealing is when i take something from you and you don't have it anymore. Unlike theft, If my book or game is pirated, I still have the book.

DF is about as lenient as one could possibly be on stopping the new and creative ways players come up with to exploit mechanics.
