I think all the changes are supposed to make them more passing, so a greater number of outsiders will assume the claimed sex/gender instead of the original, and that's supposed to be better for peace of mind or something (that doesn't end up being true).
I don't think many leftists argue that gender and sex aren't "supposed" to be aligned, after all, they're the only ones promoting surgeries, hormone treatments, etc. I think they generally agree you can be a woman trapped in a man's body, and that treatment can "free" them so they feel more at home in their bodies. That alignment is the "confirmation."
And I agree, it doesn't make sense.
Passing as what, since gender and sex are different things and sex dosen't inform on gender?
Passing as female? But they were never female, and never will be, since you cannot change you sex, which the wokies will concede half the time, deflecting to "sure, but they are women, sex and gender is different".
It's a never ending loop of lying because a woman is an adult human female, which they deny.
