European colonizers were cruel to native Americans but they were still the best colonizers in human history. Because if another group of people conquered the Americas, no native Americans would exist today(they would have been hunted down to the last man, woman and child) or they would all be in chains today or the Americas would be such a nightmarish place today, the surviving native Americans would flee as refugees to other parts of the world. Native Americans have no idea, how much mercy they were shown and how it could have been 10000000 times worse. EDIT: Show me other conquerors in history who just forced you to sell your land for a decent amount of money and move West or North. And learn their language and adopt their religion in order to someday integrate into mainstream society. *crickets*
You can't even make this argument in Canada. The worst thing done to First Nations, the absolute worst, is that they were made wards of the state in exchange for their land (they all signed on to the treaties except for a tiny handful in BC and they now, apparently, are being given back their land).
Literally every problem of the First Nations in Canada can be summarised by the phrase "I'm from the government and I'm here to help".
Millions upon millions of dollars are given to each and every native tribe. Most of the time, the chieftain keeps it, adds it to the money pool in the basement of their mansion, and laughs as the languishing citizens drink gasoline.
You'd be shocked how much of their Tribal money ends up in Las Vegas. It draws Natives like a magnet, apparently.
Tribal councils have meetings in Vegas... all expenses paid of course.
A few years back? Our Provincial 'Council of Chiefs' had their annual meeting not in our Convention Center, but in one in Vegas! They may be doing that every year, idk.
I wouldn't even say that they were especially cruel.
Yeah, it's a joke. The Injuns were far more despicable than any White colonizers. They visited more than their share of atrocities and sins on their fellow man. They simply lost against a more organized, smarter, and advanced force.
Honestly, they were lucky. They got to die in battle for the most part with their tribesman, defending what they loved. We in the west have to watch it fall and can't do anything about it since we don't even have the racial cohesion necessary to even try.
They got to die in battle or got to live comfortably on reservations, just partying every day. That is far better than what most conquered people in human history had to deal with.
