As much as boomers complain about iPad kids, boomers were the television kids. Their entire existence revolved around what the authority box told them.
I've heard "idiot box" a lot in music and pop culture, but I'm surprised I haven't heard this one before. Seems much more apt. Moral authority from Full House and the rest of TGIF. News authority from the political networks. Economic authority from Saturday morning cartoons (buy our cereal and toys!). I suppose it goes hand in hand - it's an authority box for idiots.
Back in the day there were only a few channels so news had to cater to the average, centrist person.
Still lied, Watergate for instance, but ironically people back then were actually better informed than almost anyone today. Only people today that actively try to find the whole truth are better informed.

They teached us architects to plan the living rooms around the stupid TV at the uni for crying out loud!
