Isreal getting away with harming the US's peace efforts is like the World's Strongest Man picking up a 50-lbs weight: Yeah, I guess SOME people might find it hard to do, but it isn't exactly flexing when they're the one's doing it.
A non-zionist would seize upon this opportunity to detach and distance ourselves from Israel. "See? They don't want peace, we cannot stand by a nation not dedicated to peace." The easiest and most streamlined opportunity to cut ties and detangle a poisonous "alliance".
But, like the plenty of opportunities to dump Bondi with a clean break, he won't. And unlike Bondi, that dream of finally leaving Israel to its own devices will never ever happen. AIPAC will make sure of that.

I think it's desperation.
They have an irrational fear of being nuked by Iran, they know any peace will have Iran secretly making nukes (which is easier every year), so they lash out to prevent that even though it's self-destructive behavior; the modern Left would nuke Israel themselves if they could, and Right support is waning.
It's so obviously a bad idea to turn their last bastion of support against them, but they're not thinking rationally.
