First Nations win initial stay in separatism challenge, temporarily blocking Alberta election boss from certifying petition results https://archive.is/dTgff
“The stay contemplated here would be in effect for approximately one month while this court reviews and considers the voluminous materials provided, the oral submissions heard over two days and makes a final determination,” Leonard said. “The issues raised by the (nations) are serious ones, and, as I have found, the (nations) have established irreparable harm.”
David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment https://www.canada.ca/en/department-justice/news/2020/03/government-of-canada-announces-judicial-appointments-in-the-province-of-alberta.html

How Albertan!
Justice Leonard is married and she and her wife have two children. In her spare time, she enjoys running (slowly) and playing the baroque cello and viola de gamba.

Democracy is being held hostage in Alberta.
Duty to consult? How many FN and Métis were consulted about bringing forth these proceedings to begin with? And what do they need to consult about? Any constitutional lawyer can address all concerns they feel they have. This is supposed to be a democratic process and everyone gets a vote regardless of colour, culture, beliefs or ideologies.
Consultations’ are literally occurring daily via town halls across the province and every Albertan is welcome to attend.
This ruling is nonsensical, as Eva points out, and this is a slap in the face to all Stay Free Alberta canvassers who’ve braved the elements, faced harassment and threats, and long days on their own time collecting signatures under the illusion we are still a democratic society.
Never got why people respected/cared about judges.
They are all bought for and corrupt. Look at the supreme court. You already know ahead of times how 6/9 are gonna vote. Its a joke
Yup, just ignore the judge and carry forward. Legalities are wrothless.
Let's consider the issue of abortion.
Let's assume eveyrone in Commiefornia is pro-abortion. It's not the case, but let's assume so.
Let's assume everyone in Texas is t he opposite, anti-abortion (anti-murder).
Then every court in Commiefornia will rule pro-abortion. Every court in Texas against it.
Now come to the Supreme Court. Let's assume 100% of judges of the Supreme Court are taken from ONLY commiefornia and texas.
Then if there are more judges from Commieland, the supreme courtt will rule pro-abortion. If there are more judges from Texas, against.
What's the point?
Exactly. There is no point. Having judges decide law is just reinforcing whatever those who picked the judges want. If the law is clear then we don't need judges and if the law isn't clear then why have judges decide instead of the people? And if people in Quebec can decide for people in Alberta then Alberta ought to have its independence and Alberta should not listen to a single thing anyone outside of Alberta thinks on their own sovereignty.
Fully agree with you.
Society would be so much better if we started ignoring courts. Though that does tend to signal the collapse of governmental systems but it will probably take that for us to rebuild.
Sounds like a bunch of eastern, French bullshit to me. But, at the end of the day, I'm not Canadian and struggle to care. I kinda care but only when it's cold out.
We can meet in the middle:
Alberta can separate, and little islands of First Nations villages can still belong to Canada, and supported by Canada's tax dollars instead of Alberta's.
If you get the right angle, right now, you can in a straight line go from the USA, to Canada, to the USA, to Canada, to the USA. Might even be able to get one more repetition in if you try hard enough, so there's plenty of precedent of a country having another country wrapping around it a bit.
Im sure albertas governor is celebrating right now
Alberta doesn't have a governor, and our Premier brought in the legislation that allowed this process to begin.
The media narrative is that she's a closet separatist secretly working to get us out of Canada, not someone trying to obstruct it.
yet she openly celebrated foreigners
When do judge become pinatas?
you can't have a country because some fag in a robe says so
Those "native" tribes were conquered and should have no say whatsoever. If they insist on remaining distinct from Canadians, then they are outsiders and should have no say whatsoever in Canadian affairs, and should not benefit from any protection from Canada, such as in the hypothetical scenario that someone decides to exterminate them.
