"Cancel ChatGPT" movement goes big after OpenAI's latest move
After Anthropic refused flat out to agree to apply Claude AI to autonomous weapons and mass surveillance of American citizens, OpenAI jumps right into bed with the United States Department of War.
I assume when they say "mass surveillance of American citizens" what they mean is immigration enforcement. No one mainstream, whether politician or tech company, really cares about mass surveillance in general, the left only started pretending they do when it started targeting their pet browns and might be a minor speedbump in their mission to turn the United States into Somalia.
Opposition to mass surveillance is kind of like bodily autonomy- it's a nice-sounding concept, but 90% of the people who claim to care about it arrived at the position by working backwards from a conclusion they wanted to reach, and will abandon the principal the moment it supports a conclusion they don't like, as we saw during covid.
I think Silicon Valley has a lot of pseudo-libertarian leftists who believe in free speech, privacy and related individual rights. A lot of the left is actual against surveillance for reasons other than immigration enforcement, although for some it could be by working backwards from conclusions like not wanting to face consequences for organizing riots and promoting violence. The left is generally pro-chaos and anti-police so it's not exactly surprising. It was people on the left like Glen Greenwald that were publishing Snowden's information on NSA spying.
So I'm inclined to think Anthropic's requirement of no domestic mass surveillance was based on this "gray tribe" Silicon Valley thinking, not because of the very recent crackdown on illegal aliens.
In the past I would've had more optimistic opinions like that, but unfortunately that's the old left that got paved over almost completely 10+ years ago. Ever since Obama took office, the left stopped giving a fuck about actually trying to fight against tyrannical bullshit.
Basically the only reason they ever seem to pretend to care is when a Republican is in the White House.
And we saw how they acted after 2020. Setting up a Ministry of Truth, pressuring social media to censor on their behalf, etc.

The "but", if you read the words, doesn't say it's actually a bad concept, just that the left don't really support it. They're just using it as cover argument to get what they really want, which is less immigration enforcement.
