Modern ginger ales from major brands have no ginger, do people still drink it for medicinal property?
I think Seagram's still has ginger.
Canada Dry occasionally puts out a run of 'Canada Dry Bold' that had ginger in it, though they don't offer it currently.
Also all the minor ones they keep near the alcohol in most grocery stores.

There probably is a placebo effect.
Carbonation itself can help a stomach ache by giving gas a place to nucleate. Can also cause a stomach ache if you drink it lying down or before aerobic activity.
