Security? According to all the reports, he was being swarmed by VIP elites who basically prevented the commoners from seeing what they paid for (tickets being the equivalent of around $150 I think?). Imagine blatantly scamming 100,000 people TO THEIR FACE. It's not just the violent reaction, it's the corrupt behavior that provoked it.
I looked up other reports (of course, all of them just more X posts, so no more trustworthy than this one), some saying the conversion was 133 euros ($150), and none of them were saying surrounded by "security." The "dignitaries" were the VIP cliques (the TMC party? Of course it was politicians...).
Could you show us the promotional material for those ticket sales? Were they specifically advertised with slogans about being able to see Messi. Or was it just a simple team A vs team B and nothing else. That's a crucial detail that decides everything.
Yeah, smashing seats is unnecessary, but the anger is definitely justified. If I were going to scam people, even OK people, I'd put good security measures in place.

They're only upset because they are on the other side of the scam this time.
$133 is a lot of money when you’re poor.
It's fine, they'll just scam some more grandmas to make up for it.
I agree. I'm just quoting the OP's link as to why I mentioned security.

Price of entry for what? What game? There was never even a mention of a game in anything.
