I just saw a recommended video on YouTube about Home Alone being a Christian movie. I decided to goggle it, and it's a debate that's a few years old. I had never heard it. But the most compelling arguments seem to be Kevin going to church and his interactions with Old Man Marely. Marley appears to have a stigmata type wound on his hand.
I don't know if I would personally call it an explicitly Christian movie. But I'm curious if anyone has heard this debate, and their thoughts on it
I would not call it a Christian movie, but rather a movie where Christianity is good and normal. a rarity for Hollywood these days.
I always thought Kevin going to church to pray was pretty spot on with what you should do in that situation, on top of massively trolling criminals.
It’s a John Hughes movie, and Hughes was very conservative by Hollywood standards. Almost all of his movies have conservative sprinklings in them and are family and goodwill oriented.
It's just a normal movie. It used to be a normal thing in America to respect God. I don't believe it was controversial to put "In God We Trust" on the money when it was done. Even a lot of the writings about the first amendment reference things more like freedom to worship Almighty God in the way you choose. They weren't concerning themselves with the freedom to worship Satan.
I kinda hope it's embraced as a Christian film widely as it has good messages within it.
Learning to be more self reliant, seeking advice in faith when conflicted or scared, heavily invest in home and self defence when a hostile invader tries to hurt you...
Embracing masculine values by watching old classics. ;)
Trusting people even when Tommy don't. Being kind and letting someone keep the change, even if they are a filthy animal.
Even if it isn't, it's funny to use lefty tactics, so call it 'Christ-coded'. Like how they claim The Wizard of Oz is secretly about fags.
It's better than a Christian Movie. It's what "Right Wing" culture should be. Christianity is just in the movie and normal and treated as an axiom. Of course Kevin would go to Church to pray. It's not a debate nor worth making a movie over any more. It just is. You wouldn't say that Home Alone is a pro pants movie because Kevin wears pants. He just does because it's normal.
This is the right way to make "Right wing culture"
No, there's no children being raped so it won't appeal to them.
