I wish the west would just give up on this stupid proxy war. It was lost 2 years ago.
Stupid proxy war aside, I don't think the France is in the wrong to detain this tanker. If you're sailing under a false flag you should expect to get pulled up if you're caught, it's every bit as shady as driving with fake plates.
Everyone does that. The largest registrar of commercial ships in the world is Liberia.

The point was never to win. The point was to back Russia into a corner and force them to bleed resources until they are ruined.
So far it is going pretty well for NATO.
Russia is making a gorrillion dollars selling oil to India who turns around and re-sells it to Europe at inflated prices. This proxy war has been the biggest self-own for Europe since WWII.
I have argued elsewhere that it is the end of at least one of Europe's biggest economies.
I don't disagree with you.
It isn't possible to keep Ukraine out of Russian hands. This is an existential situation for them, and they are a nuclear power.
If the objective is to ruin Russia then how is it going well? France/Germany are demolishing their nuclear plants afaik, so there's no light at the end of the tunnel for reindustrialization.
The objective is to destroy Europa as a whole. Just as it was for WW1 and WW2.
I don't disagree.
Bleeding Russia for resources is expensive and ultimately counterproductive.
I think that the real benefit is for certain parties to skim off the top.
This whole debacle is the end of Germany both as a western power and a cultural group.
