It’s something I noticed in the military, guys who actually did work started getting out early because they were passed up on advancement for lazy/ mediocre workers who fit a “profile” (this ran from DEI to semi attractive women getting early promoted). Turns out when you bureaucratize hiring and flatten pay instead of promoting hard work you get mass burnout. When I got out I thought it would be just the military but it hit the private sector hard while I was in.
Gen z is only willing to do the bare minimum because they haven’t seen return on work like many of us did when we were younger. Hell I picked a niche because I would have walked if I was stuck in a corporate job or average white collar job today. We’re in a fake economy by every definition and it shows when you have 4 admin positions for every actual worker.
Good points. I did see that a little bit in the Air Force. My parents drilled into my head about working hard and even if I’m pushing a mop I better do the best job possible. True there are some lazy and lefty Gen z but there are definitely some issues to address as well
The core trade, construction, got hit hard with tons of Mexican laborers decades ago, starting back in the 70s and 80s. It's just that a lot of poorer White men still practice the trade despite the massive depression in wages of the industry, because of the cheap foreign labor. Also, most Mexican construction workers are shit, their quality is shit, and they leave trash everywhere, which enables White construction workers and carpenters to offer better service and quality, leaving a niche for that demand.
Funnily enough I saw a report somewhere that older houses were selling for higher than new houses and the main reason was new homes are now needing another 10k plus in rework because of rushed builds.
Mexicans are fucking lazy and arrogant little swine by and large in the trade industry.
I'm a welder, and the amount of trash, undercut, disgusting looking cat shit I've seen passed off as a weld from the Mexicans I work with is appalling. I work in custom high end stainless for consumers. Not at the local bus barn.
And guess what? Management/supervisors are too scared to say something about it. Either because "muh racist" card, or because the beaners work fast (which is why their shit looks like shit, fast work at the expense of quality) they just pass it off and expect others to deal with it. I get told to fix it later in finishing if any of it comes my way. I've begun to just leave it as is, because I know it'll come to a head at some point. I'll be telling them to make those beaners do it right the first time because I won't cover them. They can fire me, let it slide, or make them do it right.
Already got a job offer at a place I know doesn't have Mexicans. They're sloppy shitters that get by on "working fast" and as you say, that'll pass in some jobs and for some bosses, but the rest of us ain't dealing with it

I think that’s why trades have maintained a decent pay scale despite inflation and DEI, you can’t hold 18 meetings over clogged pipes or loose vents.
