Yep, Star Wars was always meant for boys. George Lucas always said he based it on the comics and serials he used to love as a kid. He was making it for his younger self.
That doesn’t mean that girls can’t enjoy it, but if you change it fundamentally like they did, the girls who enjoyed what it was before aren’t going to enjoy it anymore either.
