This has been the case for years now, but it still boggles my mind. Gaming is an overwhelmingly male hobby. 90% of the people playing enthusiast level video games are male. Yet the clear majority of protagonists in these products are female.
New resident evil? Female protagonist.
New Ghost of Tsushima? Female protagonist.
New Hollow Knight? Female protagonist.
New Silent Hill? Female protagonist.
New World of Warcraft expansion? Female protagonist.
And that’s just the biggest trailers of the night. Gay ass indie is almost entirely female (or queer coded) characters.
Is there another industry that hates its own core customer base this much?
in team cherry's defense, Hornet has been a fan favorite since the kickstarter. the fan base is all too eager for her to have her own game.
In Resident evil’s defense, they’ve had female protagonists before.
In silent hill’s defense, female protagonists are common in horror.
There are always plausibly deniable reasons to enact an agenda. That’s how you force change.

TBF, I dont think anyone would care that about them having female characters if they weren't all visually unappealing. Last I checked, guys have no issue playing hot female characters that are written competently.
Yea but I blame the current gaming industry. You point to valid examples of female protagonists but thanks to them pushing it so much you’ll have fans who see a female lead and pass on the game. Even as a kid I remember playing Kings Quest 4 which had a female protagonist, but back then gaming companies understood the market better
If woke media is poison for your mind, then passing on any game with a female or non-white protagonist is a valid survival strategy.
Asian games are an exception, of course. Eastern European games used to be mostly safe, but warhorses and CDPR are now mega pozzed.
Yea, like I’ve mentioned before I rarely watch anything made after 2014 but non western media is an exception
Japanese companies are getting completely corrupted with DEI as well. Capcom and Square Enix are already completely lost.
Unless they've changed Hornet in Silksong she's most definitely not a woke character.
I was a fan of Hollow Knight but I'm not planning on trying out Silksong.I find no reason to do that.
It definitely has fans and it will be a good game but I don't think it will be as great a success as Hollow Knight
The development delays are a red flag but if they keep to the Hollow Knight formula there isn't any reason why it shouldn't be a banger too.
I expect it to be good but I'm just not hyped for lets play a similar game but this time with another character.
So generally not a fan of sequels.
