The big 4 also had plans to fuck with gun purchases.
The trump administration should just raid them all for seditious conspiracy and nationalize the infrastructure into an open interbank network controlled by the government, decentralizing it as the banks and other card providers would be effectively running their own cards.
Trump nationalizing specifically only financial institutions would be fucking hilarious. You’d have “both sides” screaming “wait, not like that!” while 90% of America cheers.
another idea, as an alternative to straight up nationalization, would be to simply grant payment processors complete immunity while classifying the refusal to process a payment as an unlawful business practice.
if necessary, also require them to make financial records available to law enforcement with a warrant (I'm pretty sure this is already in place) so that illegal goods and services can still be found in prosecuted.
This way they have no excuse to refuse service beyond, and any attempts to do so reveal them as the meddling scumbags they are.
I've been saying this for a while, it's the perfect middle ground. They get freedom from liability and we get freedom to purchase and sell whatever legal goods and services we want with OUR OWN money.

To be clear, I imagine it would not go well.
I’ve definitely seen a list of countries that tried that, only to be invaded and overthrown. I say we do it!
We're usually the ones doing that invasion, no?
What could go wrong?
I felt a massive kvetching, as if a million bankers cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

Had plans? They've been operationalized since 2016 and going after gun stores and gun manufacturers.
This is just their next big step.
Just like Alex Jones lawfare was the trial balloon to what we see today
