It's been sabotaged a bit thanks to people like piratesoftware
It's basically a call to make it so that games are not just deleted and are in a state where people can rent servers so the publisher can't just fully delete it like the crew and players can simply pay to buy their own server to play the multiplayer service.
I think the latest cancellation attempt made her MORE powerful!
And it's glorious! Cope and seethe, haters.
Hell, SideScrollers are using that 'Nazi vtuber list' some Bluesky troon did as a list of people to invite to the podcast lol.
Well, I hope they don't follow it too closely. If it's the list I saw, part of it is just retarded leftist virtue spiraling. Wasn't Anal Violence himself on the list, as well as other far left troon Vtubers?
That was an amazing blowup, holy shit. They turned on each other so fast, just because Kirsche's attacker tried to use Pippa as a wedge in another smear piece, then got accused of defending Nazi Pippa, and got lumped in with all the "Nazis." Amazing shit, good job, leftists. Truly a story for the ages. And all because a tranny loser wasn't allowed their delusions.
Deliberately misconstrued the argument to imply we we were demanding the government to make companies keep mutiplayer games servers open forever or at cost make them offline playable.
He ditched his party on raid wasted his mana as an excuse not to come back and help them and threw a hissy fit. His entire history was then under attack. He has an unfinished game he gofunded that’ll never get mad and worked at blizzard because his daddy got him a job.
If he worked for Blizzard he should know what the intent of the petition is about. Fans wanted classic WoW, fans made their own classic WoW servers, Blizzard sued to shut down a classic WoW servers, fans still wanted classic WoW servers, Blizzard told fans "you think you want that, but you don't", fans still demanded classic WoW servers, Blizzard finally relented and released classic WoW, classic WoW was a huge success.
I'm sure that despite the success, Blizzard devs were seething. Both because of the extra work it took to make it happen, but more because it was a rebuke of everything they've done to 'improve' the game over the last few decades. How has classic WoW been doing lately? Is it still a hit, or has the nostalgia worn off?
Edit: I looked it up, it has a quarter million daily players, compared to regular WoW's one million daily players. Which again, makes it a fantastic success in it's own right, but I'm sure there are resentful devs who think those people should be playing regular WoW instead.
I only heard about it after the recent debacle with that guy.
On the one hand I get where he's (supposedly) coming from when he does the motte argument of 'well it will be a burden on businesses and maybe that means they don't accept a project'. But the bailey of 'so how would you ever get another world of warcraft if (worst case scenario) was law?' is so ridiculous it's worth the backlash.
I do think ultimately there is some part of the 'meta' of live service-ifying games that needs to change. Hopefully this or some similar thing gains some traction.
As frustrating as it is, I don’t see this going anywhere. If it’s been 15 years and they’re shutting down the server, it’s going to be hard to pressure them into open sourcing something or making it easy to rent servers. Even if they can keep pulling money out of customers it won’t be enough to justify the time.
At some point you just need to buy the new version or play a new game
it’s going to be hard to pressure them into open sourcing something or making it easy to rent servers.
Assuming it goes anywhere, the point of the petition is to craft law requiring them to do so. It would only apply to new game development, so presumably they would consider all that before building their platform on top of licensed middleware that can't be freely released at EoL. It's a trivial ask.
It's also intentionally left vague. Ross is hoping the game publishers can work out exactly how to make the game still playable in some form, without forcing them to "open source" their code or anything like that if they don't want to. It certainly wouldn't require them to rent their own servers. They could release binaries that players can run on AWS for example. Most of the games that get killed are not truly online games but have been intentionally crippled with GaaS connectivity as a sort of planned obsolescence. For example it might have a single-player mode but it has to ping a central server to download rankings or something.
I agree with it in principle but I don’t think government legislation is the answer, I think most of the worst offenders are starting to go broke now anyways.
Yeah I was talking more in terms of not buying from the company anymore, for example I would never purchase a game made by Ubisoft, EA, CDPR, Bethesda etc. As I said I am sympathetic to the cause and agree with it in principal but I’d rather see consumers put an end to it than government legislation. I guess a lot of it boils down to where we live and what our experiences with government overreach are and in my case I already live in a nanny state (Australia) and want as little goverment involvement in my hobbies as possible.

Hell that cancellation produced this livestream with Jim.
Skip to 1:17:30 to hear Jim lose his mind at hearing how much she made from ONE merch drop.
why, what did he do

I swear that account is run by a jeet
I think you must be thinking of a different account. Piratesoftware is a YouTuber who does face cam, and he’s not a jeet.
i've never seen his youtube videos. i only know him from twitter. but some of his takes are just bad

No need for a jeet. “Thor” is a gay furry so he’s doing this on his own.

What do you think is the answer then? Market forces give you the current status quo.
I think if people don’t like a service or product that is being offered then they should simply stop purchasing said service or product.
The petition is quite literally about post-purchase changes to products.
