...banned on government devices.

Meta owns them, so you shouldn't be using it anyway, since FB hates free speech.

I'm curious if it's data security concerns, or if it's really too much data security. if whatsapp's encryption works like advertised, then the feds can't track their employees conversations.

they’re recommending people use alternatives like signal.

Signal has been suspected to have had a CIA backdoor in it for a long time. Perhaps, this is confirmation of that...

The fact that its mentioned in The Terminal List, which the author says was reviewed by special operations command, makes it suspect. No way the military would recommend a service they cant actually get into.

Signal is open source - so there’s a lot less chance the CIA is in it than whatsapp

Any software that gets large enough is going to have government backdoors or at least the government trying to install backdoors. Governments will also find zero day attacks and just sit on them until they're needed for some big operation without ever letting the software vendor know that there's a gaping hole in their product's security.

Imagine if our politicians were smart enough to do this without needing to be told to. Common sense is long gone in this society

The fact that it took them this long.

My company did that years ago. And our secrets are pussy shit by comparison.
