If only they did have a nuke, then MAD would keep us from sending troops there. But there's apparently only room for one rogue nuclear state in the mideast.
I mean, true. Ideally no one should have a nuclear weapon.
But, considering they exist, I don't really think it's anyone's place to tell other countries what they can do.
I know it's just basic power dynamics and relative strength, but what exactly gives our government moral authority over the Iranians?
there's nothing more about it, it's all about strength. the entire world operates on the idea that the strong will destroy the weak, and they must therefore be strong themselves to prevent that from happening to them.
preventing Iran from getting a nuke is purely about preventing a potential rival from having the power to challenge them.
Thucydides wrote it 2400 years ago: the strong do what they can, the weak suffer what they must.
It's power politics all the way down.

I actually believe that any non-aligned nation needs a tactical nuclear program. Like, 1 Kiloton or half Kiloton warheads if they choose to be unaligned, but are surrounded by stronger powers.
Like, if Denmark and Switzerland want to remain neutral, but they are surrounded by France, Britain, and Germany who want to invade and take power, then Denmark and Switzerland need nukes to stop any real invasion by land, sea, or air. Yes, the bigger countries could use nukes, but why? At the end of it you get a million dead and irradiated neighbor that genuinely didn't want to be involved. It's kind of pointless if your point was to take the country with only a thousand dead.
For a smaller country, it would really be the only way to defeat a massive air-attack, naval task force, or armored rush.
I mean, history, including very recent history, clearly shows that.
As a nation, you have two choices; be subservient to a stronger foreign nation, or have the most powerful weapons available. Independent countries need nukes.

Even if they do, I'm more concerned about what method of delivery they have. Only thing that gets to me, here in the part of the world that the US should actually bother with, is an ICBM. They'd have to have such obvious help from the Russians there that we'd know it was from Russia and they might as well just nuke us themselves. Otherwise, I mean Bezos with all of his resources can barely shoot a few celebrities above the clouds. There's not some secret country with that kind of tech.
So the reality is at most they can hit Israel. Which would probably just go crazy and shoot shit at Russia to start something if they ever got hit.
