I was under the impression that Romanian & Roma were two completely different cultures/ethnicities that only sounded similar.
With the Roma being ancient Indus valley people.
Edit: Wikipedia does suggest that Romania does have one of the largest Roma pops in the world at about 3% of their census population, and estimates of anywhere from 600k-1.8 million people (of Romania's 19 million).
Wikipedia suggests there's similar size 1 mil diasporas in the US, France, England, Brazil, Germany, etc.
jews here give them Romanian passports, jews in the west call them Romanian, and that's how you get an entire country of Whites degraded to and equated with nomadic indian thieves. calling them "Roma" is nothing more than a sick joke and a propaganda move as they have nothing to do with anything that sounds alike...
They are completely different. It's a bit like how arabs are "asian" in the UK. They conflate Roma with Romanian often so they can feign ignorance/mistakes when it's pointed out that the Roma are basically Pakis
They left India a long time ago, so long they don't actually know when, why or from where, just somewhere in the Indian subcontinent based on their language (bears features from central India as well as northern Pakistan) and cultural beliefs when they were first recorded in Europe in medieval times. They were often associated with Egypt in the minds of Europeans, hence the term Gypsies.
The Roma name is a coincidence, but Romania has long had a high population of them, so it probably reinforced the name.

I assume Romania is just the cover for them.
