The Michigan State finding undermines several myths and misrepresentations about COVID spread by the right wing. These include the claim that children are virtually impervious to COVID, which has been refuted by the injury and death toll among children.
A related misrepresentation was that children can’t pass on the infection to adults. In fact, because many children didn’t show symptoms of the infection or had only mild, flu-like symptoms, they functioned almost like an undetected fifth column in spreading the virus to adults.

The only good study to come out at the height of the pandemic was by NBER because, for all their faults, properly trained economists can actually perform statistics. They concluded that masking didn't do a damn thing. It wasn't complicated to suss out: they looked at the rates of change vs overall case numbers. This is basic shit, but the average PhD is mathematically inept in ways that are shocking.

I’m preaching to the choir here, but the (intentional) error in all these studies is taking very, very shaky “death and injury” numbers and using them as solid, uncontroversial statements of fact. The truth is that we called many things that sort of kind of looked like covid “definitely covid,” and then if anything happened to anyone we said had covid, even if it was more likely a result of, say, morbid obesity or spurious ventilator use, we called it a result of covid.
