The only good study to come out at the height of the pandemic was by NBER because, for all their faults, properly trained economists can actually perform statistics. They concluded that masking didn't do a damn thing. It wasn't complicated to suss out: they looked at the rates of change vs overall case numbers. This is basic shit, but the average PhD is mathematically inept in ways that are shocking.
