BREAKING: The MAGA White House backtracks on Donald Trump's truly insane announcement that he will be imposing a 100% tariff on all movies produced in "Foreign Lands" and says that "no final decision" has yet been made.
Trump is working hard to destroy ever sector of our economy...
"The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death. Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated," Trump wrote on Truth Social last night.
"This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda! Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!" he added.
The response from Hollywood was swift, with many commentators correctly pointing out that such a tariff could lead to the total collapse of the industry.
It's unclear how such a tariff would even be implemented but it could spark reciprocal tariffs from other countries, cutting off access to crucial markets that films need to turn a profit.
"We believe he has no authority to impose tariffs under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act, since tariffs are not listed as a remedy under that law," California Governor Gavin Newsom's senior advisor for communications Bob Salladay said.
Now, it appears that Trump may be reconsidering—
"Although no final decisions on foreign film tariffs have been made, the Administration is exploring all options to deliver on President Trump’s directive to safeguard our country’s national and economic security while Making Hollywood Great Again," White House spokesman Kush Desai told The Hollywood Reporter.
As usual, Trump's economic policies are as poorly designed as they are ignorant of the fundamental needs of the people on the ground. If he really wanted to help the film industry, he would suggest federal tax credits and subsidies to stimulate more production.
Tariffs will have the opposite of Trump's suggested effect. Just look at what the China, Mexico, and Canada tariffs are already doing to the stock market and small businesses. Piling even more on top will not only hurt Hollywood, it will hurt all of us.
Of course, Trump isn't suggesting a practical solution because he isn't really interesting in solving the problems that Hollywood faces. He's only interested in foisting his harebrained ideas onto the American people to prove what a brilliant leader he is.

They have an industry that is paying Zegler millions to play Snow White. The reason why actors are payed millions is not that the movie makes millions is that the actor brings in viewers/ fans. People used to go see a movie with Sean Connery, Brad Pit or Denzel Washington - they deserved the money. Zegler made people not go to the movie, it costs Disney millions and yet they still payed her many millions.
Everyone in this industry is a moron, the industry does not deserve to survive.

seriously i've watched chink-made films a few years ago and while they were cliche as fuck, they were free from diversity completely (no token nigger or strong whaman)

Look up the works of Zhang Yimou. He is one of the best directors I have ever seen, and often talks about Communist China and how it has crushed others.

They're DEIing anyway, but Trump is offering a way out. The left think it's better to let it die so they can take over other industries. That's a thing I've noticed. He keeps offering deals to port towns because Tariffs might hurt them, but the left would rather let it be destroyed to gain more power in other states.
