It's basically an extension of Sargon's oft repeated comment (which I think comes from a British Liberal Conservative) "Justice wields a sword".
Justice is blind, and just holds a scale in one hand, but a sword in the other. Yes, this is violence. Yes, this is oppression. Yes, you are being tyrannized... but this is happening to you because you deserve to be oppressed, violated, and tyrannized. The question is why, that was the result of the scale. But the outcome of the scale is the sword.
We oppress murderers, pedophiles, and thieves. We must, or we don't have a civilization.
The Left pushes anti-civilization attitudes from Rousseau. Yes, civilization and duty oppress your uncontrolled free will, but that isn't bad. It's a rejection of temptation, hedonism, savagery, and the demonic. Rousseau rejects this and asserts that the savage is noble because civilization is inherently evil.
As such, the Left see murderers, pedophiles, and thieves as oppressed by civilization, and that's why they keep siding with them. If, they assert without evidence, society had provided for them, murder, pedophilia, and thievery would be impossible. This is explicitly wrong. Murder, pedophillia, thievery, and every other act of evil is is not done because materialist wants have not been fulfilled, but because their want is WRONG. It should never be fulfilled, that is what makes them evil, not civilization.
Where I disagree with him, is that he looks at this (and Rousseau) as an innate extension of Liberalism. The point of Political Liberalism is to limit government interference so that good men can make good laws to create civilization, and then to manage the government as a weapon of oppression within a good civilization. The government must not oppress the innocent, only the guilty. The government can not reward, it can only attack. It must only attack in the right direction, in the right way, against the right people. It must not be allowed to act on it's own will, or it will swing back and attack the wielder and the people it is supposed to defend (I like to compare it to a runaway gun).
At this point, I wish that he would fulfil these people's subjugation fantasies and just start throwing them in jail and throwing away the key.
It is moral to oppress criminals.
This is good phrasing. It puts a crack in their monolithic opposition to "oppression" and how it's always framed as universally evil.

Weird that this was accurate and not cynical enough.
