A extended family member who told me they met him said he was. She ran into him at a restaurant with her newborn and apparently George loved babies, wanted to hold her baby.
I have had friends who were internationally recognized athletes. They were lucky in their choice of sport, because it was not nearly as physically demanding as boxing. If you think something like golf, you'll be closer.
Even then, their competitive career at the top of their game was only, like, seven years or something. Their sport had no chance for sponsorship or as a 'brand ambassador' or whatever. Normies would never care enough. Their post sport career will be much, much longer than their actual sporting career.
George managed to first become a heavyweight champion of the world, then he managed to use his drive and determination to make himself a household name. He did it with a product that was actually pretty good for everyone who used it.
It is a legacy that few top level sportsmen will ever match. No one is going to buy Tiger Woods brand prenuptial contract services, or Wayne Gretzky vegetarian pretzel bites.
I was too young to have seen him fight in the 1970s, but I was around for his comeback in the ‘90s. There was a lot of moral grandstanding from the media about how he was too old and would get killed in the ring, but the motherfucker went toe to toe with the best and I think even won a world title at some point during his comeback.
I could never get his grill to cook shit the way I wanted, though.
That's sad, he always seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
He had a powerful testimony as well about his journey to Christ and being a minister.
Absolutely

only 76? i thought he was a lot older. damn. rip to a true one, his grill did a lot for my family in the final months of 2001 and the start of 02.
Hulk Hogan apparently missed the call to sponser the grill.
Hogan also claims he was supposed to be in Metallica.
Hulk Hogan says a lot of complete BS.
Same. Boxing is hard on the body.
Remember him for his grill than his boxing, Requiescat in pace

I am sad that George isn't around anymore.
RIP, champ.
RIP. He was a good dude
Just saw him on an episode of Modern Marvels for his Foreman Grill. Sorry to hear he passed.
Actual legend. RIP
That Sucks, he was a hell of a guy.

We shall miss him and his novelty grills
I shall miss his eternal, made-up feud with Mike Tyson to sell the best grill in America.

I won't lie, I thought he was older. Still a damn shame for such a boxing legend.
