in animal crossing you used to be able to tan your character by staying in the sun for a while, https://animalcrossing.fandom.com/wiki/Tan but now the option is gone and replaced with choosing your skin color at the beginning of the game just so they can cater to blacks.

Try to explain to a lefties that darker skin in art usually just means the characters works outside rather than being from sub-saharan Africa
Which is why a lot of women from countries where working outside is a thing use skin whitener to try an illustrate that they are from money.
I've gotten to see some of my Indian colleagues and it was funny how much darker their skin was compared to their teams pictures.
Dude, photographing darker skinned people is hard. You need to lighten the iris to get a better view of the details. A friend of mine got married and we had to Photoshop thr same pose with two different iris sizes to get them right together. His best made her disappear next to the white wall behind them. If we darkened it for him, we couldn't see his face.
That sounds fucking haunting.
I should point out she was proper Seattle. The sun had been a distant dream by that time.
People in white countries court skin cancer by tanning in order to make it appear like they have leisure time.
People in dark countries court skin cancer by using skin whitener to make it appear that they don't work out in the fields.
There is no winning against human insanity.
Nessa from Pokemon is a fun example. Blue hair, blue eyes. The dark skin makes more sense as a tan.
Could be puerto rican, a puerto rican with a deep tan.
It's a cultural gag, because japanese people do get tanned in summer
I think it's less about catering to blacks and more about having the character be amorphous and look like anything regardless of the environment. The original animal crossing built your character based on a conversation you had on the train, you had no ability to directly affect what your character looked like. it was neat because it made your character part of the world, instead of a self-insert.
now they have to cater to narcissists and trannies who throw a hissy fit if their character doesn't look exactly the way they want it to.
Wasn't that game always woke? That it wasn't would be more surprising.
nah it wasn't always woke. its just a cute game with animal neighbours and the original game used to have the animal neighbours call you fat. .
Remember when the text scroll got louder the bigger the letters were?
Great touch.
