Considering the stuff that just came out with the recent defamation case against CNN, I really dont think they do. They really do think that they havent lied, if they did it was necessary for the greater good, and that anyone who attempts to but in is a terrible person who should know their place. And of course, all of this is what makes "democracy" great and stable.
Meanwhile, they are rocking that sub-Congressional approval rating, having people tell them that journalist are actors (and Rome was right about actors), and they blame everyone but themselves for this state of affairs.
John Stewart had a point about "Mount Bullshit", but he pretended it was only Fox News and the Neo-Con establishment deluding themselves. In reality, it's the whole media.
Mr. Lebowitz asking "Don't you think it's possible that the coronavirus may have come from the lab with the name coronavirus in it?" on Colbert's show was an infuriating act, not because it was wrong, but because no one could silence him for saying something that people were killed for.
They're especially bad with headline photos. Sometimes it's stock footage, other times it doesn't even have to do with the story; they just post it to make the readers feel a certain way and they're just fine with that. Heaven forbid they send someone out on location.
Don't get me started on murder stories where the headline photo is of the victim because the perp was black or Hispanic.

They did silence him. Stewart hasn't made a peep against the establishment ever since. Someone got to him.
He currently hosts The Daily Show.
Yeah, going after establishment approved targets like the old days. He is on their leash again.
