Seems that way. Then again, I've always liked methodical, more grounded and realistic combat, which isn't something we get very often. So I was instantly drawn to the original Lords of the fallen because Harkyn was a right proper badass, and the heavy weapons actually acted like and felt like heavy weapons. I can't think of many games where you can do one power swing with a heavy axe or sword and just split an enemy in two or instantly decapitate them without doing the whole chip-away HP dance.

But if there are more games out there like that I'm always all ears for them. With the new Lords of the Fallen game it just seemed like yet another Dark Souls clone, and since we have so many of them, it just seemed pointless to me, since we already have Dark Souls/Elden Ring/Bloodborne/etc.

You know fair, that's a solid reasoning for liking it and I can't think of anything that provides that specific niche desire. Maybe The Surge games, as they seem to be about removing limbs so you can equip them yourself, but I've not played them so maybe I'm off base with that.

I do agree though that nu-Lords is literally just a Dark Souls clone in so many ways that it almost feels pointless. If it had come out when the original did it would be a 12/10 game because that was still a fresh idea, but now it just feels like "why play it when I can play the actual multiple Souls options."

Ha, when I was writing my comment I was actually thinking about The Surge! It actually does come sort of close to the combat I was thinking about, and I really like the limb removal feature, I just felt the movement and combat was kind of clunky (which makes sense given the themes), and some of the animations were a bit too janky for my tastes.

The thing that absolutely sold me on the original Lords of the Fallen was switching stances with the two-handed sword enabled the use of the resting wrath stance, which enabled launching one-hit decapitation attacks. Absolutely loved that!

I don't think I have ever played another game that let you do that, or even had half as many HEMA stances as the original game had. I know Hellish Quartet is pretty good with a lot of HEMA content, but it still's still quite janky and needs a lot more refinement, but it's getting close.

It's also one of the reasons I'm REALLY looking forward to Blight: Survival. Seems like the exact kind of grounded, heavy, medieval sword-play I've always wanted out of a game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1774880/Blight_Survival/

It sounds like you are seeking out something closer to Mordhau than what most people come to Souls games for. So if you haven't tried that one, I'd recommend it though I haven't played it in years to know what its like now.

I'm much more partial to the standard sword and board setup in any of the games, myself. Anytime I do heavy handed unga bunga I go with clubs for crushing instead of cleaving.

Had not heard of Mordhau. Looks interesting, I'll give it a look-see later. Thanks for the recommendation.
