Part of that Israel/Palestine schism that happened in the Left is that a large faction of Leftists sided with the poor, oppressed browns like they were taught to.
So they defaulted to their natural attacks, "anyone who is against me is a Right-wing Nazi." Which included the Jews and their organizations.
It has been one of the tenets of the socialist intelligentsia for decades that Israel and Zionism are just another manifestation of First World colonialism and imperialism and that anyone who supports it is necessarily right-wing. If you criticize that viewpoint, especially in a university outside the US, they'll look at you like you're saying rain is dry.
Which is why it was generally pretty important to the facade that Zionism was treated as an unspeakable Nazi word, and that talking about Israel by name was really only done in Right-wing circles either pro or against.
Once the Left became aware of it, it was only a matter of time before it became a huge thing because of the very way those same Jews taught them.
As the old joke goes, the "I'm not white I'm Jewish" line doesn't mean shit to a nigger with a gun. Just the same it doesn't mean shit to a lot of the Left either anymore.
The majority of Jews in America are "born into it" types that could probably tell you less about their religion than the average illiterate negro could about the Bible. Its one of those benefits of being both a ethnic group and a religion that you get to play demographic games like that.
Of the ones that actually go through all the motions and actually have to live with that structure in their lives, that's probably the majority of the ones that make up that 20%. Because things like that pull anyone Right, even if its not fully Right wing.
I still don't like them or want them around in any way, but the "religious Jew" and the "by blood Jew" are not the exact same and its important to remember that to better hate them with.

Jews voted 80% for Kamala Harris by the way. If there are ''tons of right-wing ones'', they don't break the 20%.
Which is strange considering how pro-Israel Trump is. To the point most of his kids are married to jews.
According to Public Religion Research Institute, it was
79% Harris 21% Trump.
NBC exit poll is just 1 percetage point different.
And for all the gay pride-flag waving and black pandering Republicans and Trump did, they got less than 15% of those votes.
