All categories other than Best Picture will be held to their current eligibility requirements. Films in the specialty feature categories (Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature, International Feature Film) submitted for Best Picture/General Entry consideration will be prompted to participate in the Representation and Inclusion Standards process.
Wait. Variety thinks he's doing it because he actually wants to win an Oscar for validation? Holy shit. There's dense and then there's whatever this is.
This is one of the most insane articles I’ve ever read. We have the most successful film in its genre this decade, but we are somehow “hypocrites” for suggesting that it deserves any awards recognition at all. Conservatives are supposed to stay in their ghettos.
And they used to recognize popular movies, the whole Best Picture being a movie nobody ever saw is a relatively new phenomenon. It didn't often go to the highest grossing movie of the year but you still had Godfather, Platoon, Forrest Gump, Braveheart, Rocky, etc win. Kramer vs. Kramer made $173 million in 79-80s money. Plus they often nominated things like Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc
Well I was 4 when it was released in theatres but it was the fifth-highest grossing film of 1985 with a gross of $87 million, $227.5 million worldwide which is $667m in today's money.
You should totally own the Chuds and make it an Oscar winner! Show them you aren’t scared of someone challenging your character and ideologies! Tolerance right?!
Its a joke to fuck with them onviously
But even non-trolling why shouldn't it be up for an Oscar?
It breaks the new DEI rules for nominees.
No it doesn't, those don't apply to docs. https://archive.is/g5tPx
Ah.
If Am I Racist does too well they'll change the rules though
I'm not sure, if he might be able to just scrape by with the people on his team and the interviewees.
It only applies to Best Picture. Animated, Documentary, etc still has the old rules.

It's more he's trying to validate them by giving them the opportunity to award a conservative film.

Oscars aren’t inherently “liberal”, they’ve just been hijacked by ideologues in the last several years
Hollywood output up until the 1990s was fairly in line with the values of most Americans.

How many times did you see Out of Africa?
Well I was 4 when it was released in theatres but it was the fifth-highest grossing film of 1985 with a gross of $87 million, $227.5 million worldwide which is $667m in today's money.
It was like Avatar, everyone claimed yo love it, and no one did.
What in the world is Out of Africa?
Oh yknow, cannibals, rapists, criminals, disease and so forth.
Oh you’re talking about a movie.
A film about a cheetah or something. It's not the Gods Must Be Crazy, that's for certain.
If by that you mean them constantly pushing the boundaries, maybe. Otherwise, I completely disagree.

The left REALLY can't meme can they..
Does Variety not sell papers to all those red counties on the election map? Are they hypocrites for selling papers and articles to "flyover states"?
