I used to watch gundam wing as a kid and have recently watched 00.
Looking to get into some more because who doesn't like big stompy mechs but I'll be real i find a lot of gundam heavy going If there is too much of what i would term "pathological pacifism".
If when faced with an existential threat to your existence and your first reaction is still to cry like a bitch about the morality of taking up arms then frankly you deserve what's coming. Looking at you Sanji Crossroads.
Anyone willing give me a list of Gundam recommendations with that point in mins?
Mobile Fighter G Gundam.
THIS RECOMMENDATION OF MINE IS BURNING RED!!!
IT'S LOUD CRY TELLS ME TO CONVINCE YOU!!!
HERE I GO!!!
G Gundam is a trip. Tons of fun though to watch.
08th MS Team is a classic if you want Universal Century, small unit mobile suit combat in Vietnam. Gundam Thunderbolt offers a newer side-story look for Universal Century. I've always loved Gundam Wing & Endless Waltz, but if ihad to choose a non-UC ... mmm you could try the Mercenary Kids of Iron Blooded Orphans. However Gundam Wing remains the nest non-UC imho.
On a side tangent - want a kino space anime with great combat & story, check out Outlaw Star.
Outlaw star is one of my favourite animes of all time. Criminally underrated.
I'll check out some of the universal century stuff thanks
I second 8th MS Team. IMO the most realistic representation of what actual mecha combat would be like to date.
0083 is pretty awesome
I got the first series on blu-ray and have been slowly going through it. Plan is to just work my way through the entire series.
Iron blooded orphans was one of the darker entries
my two favourite series IBO and Turn A are not really what I would recommend to someone new to the franchise because they are both intentionally different to the other gundam series in a way where knowing the common tropes of gundam is kind of a must in my opinion (less so with Turn A though but I still wouldn't watch turn A early on)
that being said: start with the compilation films of the original 79 gundam they cut out a lot of the filler and theres a few scenes re-done because in the original tv series bandai wanted to sell toys
once you have watched those you can go straight to zeta or watch some of the side stuff like 08th MS team
Hijacking the post - as posted, I'm going through the original first series now and plan to work my way through. Are there any series I should avoid?
Stardust Memory is trash.
I was not fond of Zeta.
Gundam x was rushed af.
IBO is edgelord tragedyporn so if you dont like that steer clear.
Hathways and Thunderbolt are currently unfinished so maybe hold off on those.
Ignore the other retard, the Seed timeline and Age are great.
Generally my advice is to watch everything yourself and make up your own mind. You can ask 40 different people and get 40 different answers.
0083 has cool suits but an agonizingly retarded plot. The entire SEED timeline is mediocre at it's best and only gets worse. Supposedly AGE is awful, never watched it.
G Gundam
turn a
turn a turn a turn a turn a turn a
Turn A is meant to be watched after someone has finished UC through CCA. It is a masterpiece, though.
If nothing else, then at least watch the classic Mobile Suit Gundam that started it all. It has aged like fine wine. The compilation movies are good if you don't feel like sitting through 50 something episodes. And if you enjoy that, then watch the prequel Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin (do not watch the prequel first).
The twerking Zeon show?
The show where the gundam's proportions change every few cuts.
