I'm just very grateful to have gone through high school and college before smartphones. Facebook was still limited to just people in your college which lead to many dates and new friends than the usual methods. It also didn't have photos (other than your profile pic) which kept most of the proto-onlyfans attention whore thots away from it.
Once smartphones hit everything changed. Work lunches used to be fun and full of conversation, but then it became a chore as everyone anti-socially finger fucked their phones rather than talk to the humans right in front of them. Dating got more annoying for similar reasons and I openly chastised girlfriends for whipping out their phones during dates THEY demanded I take them on.
2008 was when it all kicked off. The Obama presidential campaign got everyone onto their new iPhones with Facebook and Twitter replacing the MySpace and Bebo of before for normies.
Ten years later message boards and IRC would be mostly gone for the common internet user. Replaced with Reddit and Discord.
Change and Hope turned quickly to stagnation and unhappiness. Individualism shunned for collective lying and mockery of those not taking part.

Change and hope were never anything more than a campaign slogan to sucker people into voting based on their perceived collective guilt (that leftist activists/radicals indoctrinated people into having) of the country's past history with prejudice and slavery.
Zero (good) change came from Obama presidency. Things (with regards to both government and society) only changed for the worse.
The media used the color of his skin to make him nigh unassailable - even today, we still see shitbags in the media, and idiots all over reddit, parrot the bullshit about how "he was scandal free! all he did was wear a tan suit! huRURrrRRRRrr..." - and all he did was implement as much of the leftist agenda, pushing our country ever further to the left, as possible.
It's also still hilarious to me that the media got this guy - a "black" guy - elected, and yet somehow they also used that to absolutely destroy race relations in this country. Things are dramatically worse than they were when I was in high school in the late 90s. It's crazy how much worse they are now.
Hope and change, and everything the left is up to, is all bullshit. They simple want to use whatever it takes to tear down our country, and remake it with in total control. That's the only change that interests them.
Obama was just a part of the baked in plan. Bush and Gore were certainly a puppet show. 9/11 sealed the US into conflict overseas which didn't bring any rewards back to its citizens fighting in those conflicts, the 'privacy' laws which then robbed law abiding citizens of their freedoms, bailouts for the housing crash secured a divide between those with and those without, Obama brought in divide and conquer via the Occupy Wall Street and Tea Party protests being dealt with, the Arab Spring disaster cost even more US servicemen lives and the press turning on its costumers was pushing totalitarianism to its absolute limit.
Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton didn't stand a chance against Trump and the people of America having their say and the entire system is against each and every one of them.
You only have to look at the McCain funeral to see who was part of the anointed 'royalty' of the US and who was the incumbent.
Hope and change was simply divide and conquer under a new name and the people, most of them at least, have had enough of being told what to do by wealthy elites who have no shame or respect for what America is.
The smartphones were the trigger, but retard proofing desktop operating systems would have done the job had smartphones never come along. Things going wrong with computers used to be a lot more common, and using them regularly required problem solving skills that imposed a minimum IQ limit on computer and therefore internet use. Making tech user friendly enough for normies was a mistake.
Pre-smartphone internet had a built in NPC-filter that vanished as soon as the right apps were deployed on iPhone
smartphones were the second eternal September

smartphones and social media were a fucking mistake

You are right, but greed always wins.

BBS ignored for that BBC.
I blame Maddox for the whole lot.
It is the masses fault.
Video games, the internet and technology was a woman repellent until the early 2010s. Which is right when the internet started to decline.
Women joined in mass and men decided to follow women.

It looks like Obama phones got data in 2005 as near as I can tell. I'm not arguing with you; I was just trying to figure out when.
You're going to have to elaborate on that one.
He brought out his website around the year 2000 and just added large scale accessible drama to the Internet when there was none before.
Some liked it, some didn't but it was now there.
Someone had to do it, and so he takes the biscuit even though is could have been someone better or worse to have done it instead.

Or having a family member who "was good with computers" that was guilted into constantly fixing it.
