All I have to say is that, when it's all over, I hope there's nobody left on either side still capable of shaking down the US for "aid".

Israel is deliberately bombing civilian targets to kill as many people as possible. They want it to escalate into full blown war so they can drag the US into it and make them do the dirty work.
Iran doesn't want to escalate and avoids casualties. Israel would have been overwhelmed by Irans first response too if it weren't for several countries defending their airspace.
Also Israel is very strict when it comes to military censorship so you won't see videos of the resulting damage and they sure as hell won't publish how effective Irans strike actually was. Israel is a paper tiger that is completely dependent on the US and they know it.
I do believe Iran doesn't want to escalate, but do you seriously believe that Israel is "trying to kill as many people as possible"? If so, they're very incompetent because even a blind man could kill more.
As many as possible without killing off all the support they still have in the US/EU. And they're failing at that.

I just prefer Arabs and generally Muslims to remain in their own countries. Because then I don't have to give a shit about them. But if a certain country deliberately destabilizes the region since its inception and members of their tribe use their influence to send the resulting refugees to my country I can't exactly be supportive of that now can I?

These are opinions
Israel isn't a paper tiger per say, they are very effective in a defensive war (although how much was that modern Israeli equipment vs stripped down Soviet export models from the 50-60s?) but they simply lack the population to hold down any more expanded territory. Any serious war against Iran or Iraq, they get steamrolled due to the numbers issue.
No, they're not. The only defensive war they've ever fought was the Yom-Kippur war and that ended with Egypt regaining its territory and getting paid off by the US till this day. Every war they've ever won was because Arabs were poorly equipped and poorly trained and Israel had a shitton of help from the US and Europe or because they attacked without any provocation.
