This is what will happen to Ukraine. As soon as the media stops telling its rabies-infected true believers that they need to care about Ukraine, they'll stop pretending to. That will be when half or 3/4 the young men are dead and the non-country is even more of a ruin than it is today.
I'm not entirely sure it will just "disappear" and be forgotten. Libya was a short intervention that resulted in the flooding of Italy with Africans. Along with the appearance of ISIS, there was an easy pivot to distract from what had just happened.
This has been a decade-long boondoggle since the installation of Porky Poroshenko to turn an important agricultural nation into sandbox for corrupt global politicians to siphon wealth, and a forward shield against a nation that US elites have been in a spiritual war with since Stalin took control of the Soviet Union. Putin finally decided to escalate it into a physical war, and they now are just prolonging it to genocide a group of people to keep the justification going. For all we know, they might use this to pivot towards WW3.
Although, maybe I'm wrong. Historical activist/journalist groups and the like go out of their way to cover up every genocide or mass-culling of the 20th century, except for one special one... Maybe it will be forgotten quickly.
