I haven't seen the movie yet - will wait for it on download but I just have one thing to say - What the fuck were they thinking casting 55 year old Cate Blanchett as 22 Year Old Lilith?

The same thing they always think. That anything that appeals to straight men is bad, so they'll do everything they can to remove anything they'd find sexy, up to and including replacing a young midriff-baring, cleavage-presenting starlet with an old woman who slammed into the wall ages ago.
I think there's maybe also an element of the project being so low prestige and the pitch probably being obviously garbage that anyone with pre-wall big name market value wouldn't touch it with a 10-ten foot poll. They either had to between choose a hot nobody or a well known hag.
This pattern has been repeating countlessly to the extent that I find it hard to believe they had a tough time deciding on an old hag versus a hot nobody.
They call it their war against the "heteronormative"
Call me a misogynist all you want, but I've instantly written off any Hollywood movie with a female lead made in the last ten years or so. Just burnt out on this forced grrlboss trope that always breaks immersion for me.
Probably some kind of commentary how male action leads are lauded even when they're pushing 60, so they tried to be 'equitable' by doing the same with a woman. Going by the review scores, I can only assume it didn't have an equal outcome.
They did the same thing with The Nigger Mermaid. They couldn't even find a young, pretty black girl to steal the role of Ariel, no, they had to use someone who was all that 40 years ago instead.
I think you're confusing Hallie Bailey with Halle Berry
Ah, ok. Well, the CGI is so fugly ...
So's Bailey.
Old men trying to do believable action scenes is also cringe. Unless, of course, they decide to bring back spaghetti westerns, where looking like a leathery old bastard is a bonus.
Hugh Jackman is 55 and he was in as top form in the latest Deadpool movie as he's ever been.
It's so bad that I think it's still not even 10% on Rotten tomatoes audience score.
No one cares, everyone didn't watch despite them bringing in 'big talent'
Compare that to Deadpool and Wolverine and people are still lording over Gambit and Blade in that film that they should have their own only keep Blade as Wesley Snipes.
Is it even 10% on the critics score? This could be the one where literally no one likes it.
While I'm sure there was political motivation to their casting, Borderlands is one of those dogshit IPs that I can't imagine there was any real passion in subverting. It's too small and too gay already. To me, it looks like a clusterfuck of disinterested activism, money laundering, and probably some exec intra-clique politics that landed somebody with it as punishment.
Same with Tannis and of course they brown-washed Tina. They just can't help themselves.
I'm convinced it's a money laundering scheme so they just grabbed whoever had name recognition but wasn't currently working on a project and threw it all in the blender and called it "close enough".
The casting alone is inexcusably bad and tells me everything I need to know about the film.
Several orders of magnitude worse than 'Ocean's 8.'
make all women black, gay, fat, and/or old.
Their woketivism is insatiable.
