They should be able to make the money as they drain the IP. It's a very common thing to buy a brand and then cut corners until the brand loses its appeal. +/- hits and misses, I think that's what Disney is going to do.
I don't think that was the plan when they bought it, but it certainly is now. Its why they are shoving out show after show endlessly to wring out every last penny before they lose the power of controversy and outrage marketing for them.
I'm pretty sure this has been the plan of Hasbro's Wizards of the Coast for DnD and Magic the gathering.
I don't even play MtG and I cringe when I see all the crossover expansion they have been releasing rapid fire.
What is the revenue stream for yet another movie? Box office profit is far from guaranteed. I can't imagine they're making much money from the toy lines either. We've seen several cinematic universes derail: the Monster universe that never got off the ground, the DCU, and even the MCU as of late.
The first trick is to spend less. If u release on Xmas you'll get some views
Problem is that they've stated repeatedly that they haven't yet turned a profit on Star Wars. They needed to make back the billions that they paid for it, and so far, they haven't, and now they're losing money hand over fist.
I'm not sure capital works that way. What you do is borrow ever more. Disney itself could shit a billion out and still be a going interest. So on some level it doesn't matter. A competent brand liquidators could get them some $Bs
