In one of Adam Carolla's books he has a bit about speed limits. How they test everything at 150 mph to safety but the limit is 65 max outside of desert roads.
The car might be mechanically secure to that speed, but I doubt most drivers are capable of managing, say, lane changes or merging or anything beyond an extremely slight turn at that speed.
I do think there are some places where it could go up to 80 though. Most highways and turnpikes, that would probably be fine.
There was a road in Montana that didn't have one for a little while. It was glorious and I saw the reason why they made the speed limit 80 MPH every time I road it.
You know, I find speed limits to be terribly racist. We should take those down, too. All types of car races should be welcome anywhere.

Because they set the limits when 65mph was the limit of a car being safe, and then never updated them after the fact.
