Why is there a crime victim visa? Why are we incentivizing crime? We need mandatory game theory education camps for politicians so we can at least know if this shit is intentional.

Why is there a crime victim visa?

According to wiki, it is intended for the victim to aid with police investigation/prosecution if they ordinarily can't stay here. The wiki page has a section about visa fraud, which was apparently updated to include this recent instance (edited out of the excerpt below):

Abuse of the U-visa often occurs when immigrant applicants stage crimes in order to obtain eligibility. Fake crime victims may pay thousands of dollars to obtain U-visa eligibility, while business venues involved in the scheme are also paid to host the fake crimes. [...]
A 2022 Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General report concluded that the U-visa program was mismanaged and susceptible to fraud, with fraudulent petitioners gaining U-visa benefits while legitimate victims had to wait for years. The report surveyed 57 law enforcement agencies across the United States and concluded that the U-visa program is not helpful for solving crimes, with 61% of respondents stating that the U-visa program did not significantly improve their ability to investigate and solve crimes. 54% of respondents also believed that U-visa petitioners abuse the program.

Put them on a fucking zoom call from Mexico, there is no need for them to attend court.

That's a great idea for asylum/visa seekers in general. They could call it "modernizing immigration solutions for the digital age". Maybe throw in "AI" or other buzzwords to better sell it. We have embassies all over the world. There's literally no reason for anyone to physically cross a border without permission.
