To be fair the closest thing we have to a cure for most metabolic disabilities is just genetically screening embryos. On a population level "curing" the disability that way basically is just eugenics.
Eugenics being "bad" is one of the worst catastrophes to befall on humanity. So nazis liked eugenics. So what? Nazis also liked to breathe air and drink water, figure this out.
As long as they're non-mandatory, what's wrong with genetics? Given that most marriages are loveless or broken anyways, why wouldn't I wish to create kids with a partner that either maximizes the chance of them being really smart (and thus getting far in life) or really healthy (which matters a lot). Or maybe both?
Sure, we don't know if eugenics can work that well or precise with humanity. But if we don't study - we'll never know.
Because they hate the idea that genetics defines them in any way at all.
Genetics is for "animals". Humans are magical beings made out of fairy farts, and the idea of humans being limited by nature offends them.
Note how they defy that genetics defines sex ... they use the word "gender" instead, and think that wearing dresses and cutting off their dick somehow makes a man a woman.
Mental retardation? Oh, well, that's all the "poisons", it can never be my shitty genetics that caused my kid's mental deficiencies ....
Humans hate thinking they're a part of nature until it comes time to justify killing other species.
They also seem to think that "eugemics" means "killing" .. and what the fuck is wrong with sterilizing some sexually aggressive retard with no impulse control? Or aggressive retards in general?
I once met this ... couple .. that were passed off as a "married" couple, because they openly talked about ... stuff .... until someone slipped that their parents were "rich jews" who abandoned them for being retarded ... the look on his face when I said "both pairs of parents?" told me they were what I suspected, fraternal twins .... imagine the monster they might have spawned in they hadn't been fixed back before they banned mandatory sterilization of these .. humans (they're not people. If a sign language using chimp can't be a person, then neither can a goddamned abomination.)
People selectively breed despite their mealymouthed disclaimers. Eugenics as governmental policy runs into ethical problems in the debate over which characteristics are more advantageous than others and whether or not certain individuals should be legally prohibited from reproducing.
I really don't give benefit of the doubt to these kinds of arguments anymore, they lost that privilege on the 'you're harming others by not taking an experimental vaccine' hill alone..
In that respect it makes sense, as in my opinion it's WAY worse to make someone live out an existence of pure pain with no hope of curing than to screen the embryo in that regard. Maybe if we could manipulate genetics better we could make sure those traits aren't activated in the first place.

TBH, I only do it to give eugenics the benefit of the doubt rather than the idiot poster.
It's criminal that commies got to lay claim to "we're not in a utopia because no-one has tried the real version yet" but the eugenicists didn't.
