On the one hand, entitled beggars are insufferable.
On the other hand, would you doubt that whoever was hired to make these MREs used the shittiest ingredients available and then pocketed most of the money allocated to them by whatever government program?
My high school had an ice cream freezer box, french fries & pizza under a heat lamp, and a handful of other really amazing goodies that I LOVED for my first year there. Then Michael Obama's program began and basically all of it disappeared. The slushie machine was the only thing that survived, and it was extremely low quality to begin with.
The bread all changed to something that was definitely not safe for human consumption, but someone clearly got paid along the way in its production and delivery. I let my little dinner roll sit in a cup of water all lunch period, then squeezed the water out of it like a sponge and it regained its original shape afterward.
Has anyone tried to fact check if the “healthy” changes actually were healthier? Everything just became way lower quality and tasted cheaper than anything else. Maybe Big Mike wanted the clout and didn’t want to step on the toes of his husband’s buddies who make sure to take as much money as possible out of public schools
I dunno, I've watched a lot of Steve1989 videos, and the US MREs are usually among the better ones in the world. Especially considering our military actually does stuff (the Western Euros sometimes will have better rations, but their militaries don't really do anything real aside from maybe play for time until they can convince the US to send in troops)
My (ex military) parents have bought me a few, and I would say the ones I've had are probably better than you would get buying an equivalent shelf-stable meal at a grocery store.
My best friend served in the Army and when he came back from deployment he’d snatch some of his favorite MRE meals and we’d all meet up and try them. Honestly most of them slap but at first they can smell and look pretty dodgy. Just don’t look at what you’re eating and it’s perfectly fine
Honestly my preference would just be to have some pork shoulder or brisket that's been cooked in the can in its own juices, or some chili; but it's something of a miracle that they can figure out how to produce a shelf-stable pizza.
I think one of the only times Steve1989 got seriously ill from eating an MRE was from eating an unexpired Chinese MRE. And this is a guy who's eaten Civil War hardtack, WWI and WWII rations, etc...

Remember the Michelle Obama lunch program?

I will never forgive that stupid fucking baboon.
Damn you young son, but yeah Michael's forced tomato-vegetable program ruined it.
Holy shit, that made literal ship biscuits or Hard tack sound like a better option to give you.
Literal civil war and naval rations were probably better!
Skimming from the top is basic government contract meta. Good enough for government work.
Big Mike is still grifting off of that fuck up. I posted a thread about him starting a "nutritious" food company a while back.

Not one relevant indicator regarding childhood obesity and/or diabetes showed any positive result from the program.
The giant "food"-ish conglomerates made a pretty penny, though.

Imagine a chinese MRE...

Some of the meat in the entre was green, IIRC...
Yum, stale noodles with fried cockroach!
